Luque Rod Has Loosened

After 20 years my Luque rod has loosened at the top of my spine. Of course the neurologist who originally installed the luque in 1987 is now retired.

A new neurologist has suggested cutting the top of the rod off where the wiring has come a loose.

Has anyone had this problem? What did you do?
