My brother is a fairly recent (6 mo) T-1 who lives with me. Uses an intermittent cath. 3 UTIs in 6 mos but always go away fine with antibiotics. Five days ago, he started having "intense, extreme burning and pressure" in his urethra and spreading up over his pelvic area and through his scrotal area. Says it feels like he was kicked in the privates 24 hours a day. Plus about every third cath or so the tip comes out covered in blood. And (this is strange), when a loud noise happens, he says the pain becomes more pronounced, to the point where even his head aches from it.

So, he calls doc, who phones in a RX for Cipro. Doesn't help. Pain for days. Got so bad yesterday he went to the emergency room, which is no small feat, as he can't yet transfer into my car (insurance paid for almost NO rehab) and we have to use the special public transit van that can take hours to pick up and tends to leave people stranded. At ER they looked at urine sample under microscope and said NO INFECTION PRESENT. Also did ultrasound for kidney stones, NEGATIVE. So they tell him there's nothing wrong with him, dress him, and send him home with an RX for Darvocet.

I'M REALLY WORRIED there could be something seriously wrong with him, and just treating the pain isn't going to cut it. We had a VERY scary autonomic dysreflexia incident earlier this year. His doctor says they did everything for him at the ER that he would be able to do for him, so just try to hang in there and see if it goes away. I'm not sure where to turn, but would GREATLY appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!

sometimes the same thing happens with me
every once in awhile
I am sorry my voice recognition is not working
On my profile page you could definitely get Ahold of me

But you can just pretty much do research
sometimes it's just something minor
I live my life with pride because it's hard to swallow.
