Los Angeles court ruled in favor of a quadriplegic man in the amount of almost $80,000 for using excessive force. Not sure when the actual incident occurred but it does make me nervous of excessive force from other police departments. I think all police departments need to have specific training to avoid these type of problems with their officers. For more details read the story by fallowing the above link.

That can kill some people, many in fact.
They could have searched him in his chair, simply.
I hope each are sued individually in civil court and lose everything.

From what I gathered the officers were not charged or punished aside from a short paid administrative leave. The City was who the blame finally came to rest on , because "they had not properly trained their officers to deal with the disabled". Ya think? I think there are some police departments that seem to be more notorious for excessive force and police brutality...........then there is the LAPD they wrote the book on police brutality and excessive force. If memory serves the incident actually happened in Pasadena CA..........for those of you who don't know it's the same county and is just adjacent too LA.

Yup that's the one. I get worried about that kind of thing for my own personal safety as well. I smoke pot for pain relief and although I have paperwork making me "legal" I do worry in the back of my mind that some cop will toss me to the ground. Let's face it with many of us we now are the proud(OK not so proud ) owners of spines that are more fragile than that of your average AB. All I'd need is for a disc that already wants to burst.......and an upset police officer not listen to be in combination and it could be quite bad. When I 1st started smoking & before I had the legal paperwork I had a police officer accuse me of lying to him......the reason was because my leg was twitching/jumping a.k.a. spasming. Thank God a supervisor was called out & I explained it to him........so I was let go(I had a joint on me and I was going to go use it......but it was hidden in a fake highlighting marker and so they never found it.......I just for some reason smelled like it). At the time I didn't know how to obtain legal paper work........so it would have been a misdemeanor. It was that same 1st officer who informed me that they have jail cells that are wheelchair accessible and he had no qualms with showing it to me, in fact he'd love too.
