Do you get athletes feet, candida, inflammation between the toes? That is caused by a fungus that can also attack the toenails. Treat with anti fungal cream or solution and plenty of air.
Or, it might be something totally different to that.

Hi,

Nomis is correct ~ it may very well be that you have a fungal infection (onychomycosis) of the nail bed/toes. The toes usually turn yellowy brown in this scenario. Just to add that fungal infections usually start with one or two toes beng affected and changing colour and then spread to the rest of the nails.

It depends on what colour your nails are going as to what may be causing the colour change. The most likely reason for colour change ( after fungal infections) is trauma, whereby the skin UNDER the nails is affected. In AB's this is usally caused by activity wearing ill fitting footwear, however in people with paralysis, I would think that hitting your feet by accident, like into walls etc ( I do this a lot!!) is a cause. This usually turns the toes blackish..

As folks age, their nails can start to become thicker and as a result can appear a little more yellow than they were when young.

To be sure, you need to either see a podiatrist/chiropodist or maybe your dr when you next go. Fungal preparations can be bought over the counter, but care should be taken that you are treating the real cause as opposed to the one you think it may be.

Take care,

Hi xeena...if you can rule out any fungal infection...slap on some nailpolish?

I could remember experiencing that but with only the big toe. It was due to wearing closed shoes wherein I didn't notice that my toe was bent over. I had the shoe on for a day. Taking my shoe off in the evening, I was surprised! My toe was brownish black! :)

It took my nail months of growing and cutting to recover. It is ok now...
