I'm worried about my father who is an incomplete c7 paraplegic. He's been paralyzed for 28 years and always been very active despite being in pain everyday. He was told after a recent MRI that he has compressed vertebrate in his neck and should get a medical massage. He did, yet yesterday he had so much pain in his neck that just transferring to his chair made him scream. After 28 years the pain has to be intolerable to make him scream.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? The doctor's theories were that years of activity and 'hunching over' have caused this. I'm worried to death, live out of town, and want to do whatever I can to help.

While most of my spinal crap is in the lower lumbar region, I too have begun to experience occasional neck pain. I'm convinced it has to do with posture. In addition to my increased inactivity since the paralysis, I have scoliosis which throws my body into different positionings than would be desirable, long-term.

I just try and be as optimally positioned as possible, and I try to be more aware of my posture habits.

I don't know much about medical massage, but I'd want to know if it's expected to experience some increase in pain after the procedure.

I hope your father is able to get this pain sorted out...did a neurologist order the MRI?

I TO GET NECK PAIN, MOSTLY FROM SITTING POORLY. I GET MASSAGES REGUARLY AND DO HAVE MORE PAIN RIGHT AFTER BUT IT DOES GET BETTER. FOR ME IT GETS WORSE BEFORE IT GETS BETTER. AS DOES MANY THINGS. I ALS TRIED ACCPUNCTURE AND IT WORKED WONDERS.
