Well, if any of you read my blog then you know hubby & I are going through a kitchen remodel. So far it's been 4 months this last Sunday. Whew, I'm getting a bit tired washing dishes in the guest bathroom sink and cooking in a microwave & toaster oven. But when it's all done we'll have an awesome kitchen.

Our house was built in 1961, so the kitchen needed remodeling. So, we're creating an accessible kitchen that will work out great for us. This is the second kitchen remodel for us and the first time we learned a lot. This time we knew exactly what we wanted & how to go about doing it. The counters are lowered to 33" and have open spaces under the sink and stove. The stove is flat so it will be easy to slide pans on and off. We had a built in oven already that swung out, so we just had to update it with a new one (that was a trial finding one to fit in that space)! Next to our fridge is a pantry area with pull out drawers (hubby is really happy with the way these turned out & has already claimed the middle drawer). We are also putting in a drawer dishwasher next to our sink. Our counter tops will be recycled glass, very similar looking to granite - but environmentally friendly.

So far, we are really happy with the way everything is turning out. I can't wait to start cooking in my new kitchen!

Here's some pictures:

Hope these pictures show up.

This will be fabulous! Looks like you will really enjoy it. We remodeled a kitchen in our first house which worked out really well for me. I think the house we live in now was inhabited by giants. Kitchen counters are higher than I've ever seen. My arms have stretched in the last 14 years!

Just as a heads-up alert, I think you should know about my Fully-Accessible fridge that I'm registering for a Industrial-design and a IP protection in canada.
The Kitchen picture are close to my redesigned Wheelchair friendly version with ample space and full-length windows to see outside to watch your kids play in the yard , the Kitchen is based on using my fridge which no longer has the triangle concept , I call it the Kitchen-Trapazoid because it has 4 food-prep points .
Currently I have my fridge on the NASA website for the contest www.createthefuturecontest.com
in 3 catagories for Consumer/Medical/Eco-friendly .

I also posted some tips for a Home that is cheaper and faster to build and safer for Kids by changing the faucet system to keep them away from the hot-water taps, i also took the electrical wiring and plumbing out of the walls to reduce fires and water damage while it allows for more insulation to save on the heating bill or air conditioning bill.

i highly recommend a large island that is about 30"x90" , this will avoid you beating yourself up after you drop $20'000.00 on a Kitchen based on the old fridges that are now obsolete.

My husband (C6/7 complete) hasn't been home yet after his accident on April 25th 2009. The week following his accident my father-in-law broke ground on a ramp/porch to the only entry door that can accomodate a wheelchair.

Week by week, I've been overseeing a conversion of our two bedroom house to a one-bedroom with an awesome bathroom and a master bedroom with space to wheel about.

My son moved from his room to a partially done basement room as his room became the bath. Friends, family, friends of family and family of friends conspired to keep costs down and quality high.

I haven't attempted the kitchen, though I know there will be needed modifications.

I've stripped paper, painted, torn out walls, held drywall and basically learned a whole new set of skills. I'm working above my paygrade fersure.

I'm blessed to not be in much debt but there are ways to keep costs down through community action programs and disability services.

How beautiful!! My kitchen was built in the 1950's so I know what you mean! My cabinets look like they are handmade and are tall. I can't even reach the back of my countertops to wash them. This aggravates me greatly. I am looking forward to renovating our kitchen as well but it is a little later on the priority list.
