Hi guys,
a few days ago i asked a friend of mine in South Africa to help me by Senokot tablets - a laxative i take for bowel programme, to soften stool. But she sent a reply that they @ the pharmacists told her that Senna products are being phased out.Any one heard anything like this?
Also the alternative was given is "Black forest tea" anyone heard of it?
pLease i ned to knowwhat the alternatives to senokot is if they are being phased out as she will soon be returning and especially becos they are important for the success of my bowel programme.
thanks

Black Forest Tea is a natural laxative in the form of tea - we always used to take it if we were trying to lose weight while i was at High School in Joburg. I think it's got Senna in it. Not sure...
I dunno how effective it would be in a bowel programme or how long it takes to work. But it was never medically recommended to anyone i know as far as i know...

Hello, from Cape Town

Senokots are still available however, I was in the pharmacy the other day when someone came in and asked for them and, they got the same reply that they are very hard to come by as being fased out. My son is still in rehab and they use senokots all the time but, last weekend when he had a home visit they sent home a different tablet calledSoflax which is a Senna extract. Maybe they are doing away with Senokots, I will ask them at the centre when I go next time

Hi Xeena,

If you can get hold of it, try ground flaxseed also known as linseed. Mix it with yoghurt. That has helped me a lot and is much cheaper then Senokot.

Senokot granules are no longer being produced. I have problems using the Senokot tablets - hit n miss results. Anyone with ideas of any other products?

Jeremy uses Coloxyl - they seem to do the trick. 3 (he's going down to 2 now) at least 8 hours before a bm. He has excellent results.. (!)

FYI - here in the US, senna is now the active ingredient in Peri-Colace, works better than Senokot IMO
