Hi all,
As I posted a while ago I had a pressure sore on my big toe on my right foot. It started as a blister, and developed into a sore over two days.

That one healed and after leaving walking for a week after to make sure, I walked around 700meters on the crutches, and got another one on exactly the same toe, just in a different place.

I am wearing different shoes a size bigger than the previous ones through beleivibng this was my problem, and I have been checking them for any foreign bodies in there etc etc, basically doing all I can.
All I can think of now is that the skin on my feet is noticeably softer than it used to be, probably because I'm not on my feet much now. Can surgical spirit help me? obviously I will be sensible with it and not get the skin hard enough to crack, just enough to maybe resist the blisters a bit more?

What do you guys think,
Simon

Surgical spirit used to be used decades ago to 'toughen' up the skin and prevent sores. However it has been shown not to work and if anything it might be to astringent for sensitive and at risk skins.

It does however have a place in the care of feet, as a wipe to clean.. esp in those with Diabetes. In this instance it is fine to wipe between the toes with some S/Spirit to remove grease, oils and any small debris, but should be done gently and in the absence of any trauma.

Unfortunately the only cure for sores is to avoid the factors which cause them or to reduce those factors where that isn't possible.

Also i have some info somewhere which states that Despite what people used to believe, Surigal spirit will not harden skin.

Hope this helps and it is based on my RN experience ( was RN in not so distant past).

Take care,

yes thank you. I also thought of putting in on my butt lol
Guess I've got to try and find out what's causing it and fast then.

Thanks for you help,
Simon
