Is there anyone who loved rehab. It was so easy to get around the people were great the food was awsome ( i ate out every meal). After my accident rehab became home to me even tho i was there for like 2 mounths. I love going back there an seeing everyone an everything.

I miss the smells of it an the activitys we would go do around the city. If i could do the whole rehab thing over i would do it again for sure.

I miss Atlanta.

Are you guys having a laugh haha!

Personally I missed school and all my friends...my house still hasn't been adapted yet, and I've been out nearly 2 years, but I am so glad to be out!

One thing I do regret though is not trying harder...for example stuff like going up and down stairs I got annoyed with it and dsaid it was pointless as I'd never do it...how wrong was i! I've managed to bum up my nans stairs unaided but would've been good to have achieved it all in hospital as floor to chair is still something i've nto got down to a fine art!

I don’t miss in-patient rehab. The food was terrible, the aids ignored you, the therapists were hard on you and the loneliness was almost unbearable. But all in all it did give me the strength to get better. Rehab was my security and cover in my new body. At the time I was so afraid to go out and face the new world. I cried when I was told I was ready to leave. They were right. I was ready.

I do miss out-patient rehab!!

I definitely miss rehab. I was just thinking to myself the other day about how Shepherd's kinda felt better than home. I guess it's because everything caters to your disability in a way.

But, I also feel that rehab set me up for a hard fall back to reality, going from feeling accepted by everyone to coming home to no other people like me and being gawked at by everyone when you do out. I do wish I could move back to Atlanta.

I did my rehab at Shepherd Center in Atlanta. It's 35 minutes from my house so I can go there whenever I find time to work out at the gym there. I definitely don't miss the food or the techs waking you up at 6 am to check vital signs.

I love going back to the Shepherd Center too...I love being living proof to newly-admitted patients that thier life isn't over. I remember watching others who were injured a couple years before me and thinking that I would never get there...but here I am :specool:

I'm moving to Atlanta as soon as I graduate so I can participate more with the sports there. Do any of you ever go to the All Sports Camp or ASW or waterski days during the summer? My favorite is the ski trip to Snowmass, Colorado.

I was in hospital for a year and did full time physio for over a year after leaving. Once it was time to go home I had become so institutionalised I wanted to go back in. No hills, grass to fight my way over, kerbs, people staring. It never even got windy, wet, rainy and the temp was always constant. No bills and three meals a day. Like living at a resort. Someone to make my bed and empty bags, etc. After a while though I got used to "coming out" and got to really enjoy it. I wouldn't go back now although I don't mind operations any more.

I didn't do the rehab thing cos I got my wheels slowly, but I do go to the spinal rehab hospital for some treatments and clinics, and I just find it so easy. I wish I could book into a similar location (NOT a hospital, you understand, but the buildings) for a holiday - accessible rooms, accesssible shops, restaurants, pools, everything. I have found a few accessible apartments in holiday complexes, but nowhere where you can get at everything. But then I don't want to be in a crip camp either, I do want to go places where it's inclusive, but just that they have ramps and hoists and proper bars on the bog.

Or better still a bar with a bog with proper bars by the pool. I live in New Zealand and there was some mention of an outdoor centre with paths and walkways with accessable cabins here a few years back. Not sure how far they got. A few years ago I thought about buying a bus and converting it so it could take seats for caregivers and wheelchairs and doing trips around New Zealand and going to all the accessable places here. Even perhaps having a couple of tour guides who were also paid care givers on board if required. I wasn't sure what the demand would be like. Would anyone on here be interested in that sort of thing?
