I am 37 and paralyzed from the waist down (from gunshot wound to the chest).

I have lost a lot of weight probably due to a lot of leg pain & meds.

Is there anything i can use or any suggestions on how I can gain weight?

I got shot in 1992 I was 21 years old, that left me in a wheelchair. I deal with a lot of pain in my knees I can't describe the pain it just hurts so bad, after I got out of the hospital months later I loss so much weight fast the drs said I was going thru a depression I got admitted again until I gained a few lbs.
I got pregnant in 95 and gained weight I stayed healthy, then in 2002 I started having blood clots in my legs & then I had some fluid removed from my spine & that started me being on all this different medicine to try to find a way to stop the pain in my legs. Nothing has worked. I think I just loss my appetite, I eat i just don't eat a lot I could eat 1 x a day sometimes. I just need to gain a little weight because I am starting to feel so insecure about myself I have a husband he says just eat its not that easy when you are in pain all day everyday my butt is gone my legs are too skinny I am getting older now I'm starting to worry about my health a lot.

Well you could go to GNC. They have this stuff called muscle milk. It is made to take to gain muscle but if you take it an dont workout it turns to fat. So it should make you gain weight. Or you could look around in there an see if they have something that helps you gain weight. good luck i know you little skiny things get cold in the winter. :)

I lose weight extremely fast if I'm depressed or stressed. Perhaps this is simply the prediciment you are permanently in? Try the above recommended muscle milk, & do go to the gym...it's great for the body & mind. You'll look & feel like a new person! Great for your blood circulation too.

My mom has dealt with weight loss too. About 1 year ago she started drinking smoothies from smoothie king. She adds imune boosters and weight gainer to them. THey are kind of pricy, but we saw results within 2 months!!! And that was all she would "eat" at one point.

Be careful what you wish for!!!!

Some of us have too much of both. But then, gaining weight has been all too easy for me over the last 25 or so years. I've only been in a chair three of those. Much harder to lose now.

The exercise , suggested above, could be the key to both. It helps me with my pain, and at least burns a few calories. You may find that the endorphines released while doing even light weight training will alleviate a portion of your pain ( as they seem to do mine) . Do it before lunch and it may increase the chance of your wanting a shake with your veggieburger.

If all else fails, The McDonald's Diet seems to add weight to most who use it.

A great weight gainer for me when I was playing football and trying to put on a few extra lbs was a big ass glass of milk with suger and vanilla added. Taste damn good and most don't like it, but I would put in a couple of raw eggs also to make it a protein shake.

I have and do still struggle with the same problem you have..........the one where pounds melt off & you're stumped as to how to get them back. Pain can make us loose our desire to eat and even make us toss back up what we did eat. :puke: I personally would NOT suggest those things designed for weight lifters. If you are not going to be able to be active adding FAT is not healthy either. Plus the body needs a certain amount of caloric intake but of the RIGHT kind. If you aren't wanting to eat very much and you drink a shake.........there goes the room in your stomach for something like meat which has protein and iron and not to mention that we were never meant to drink our nutrition. I've had to do the ensure thing which is kinda sorta similar.........BUT it was designed for people struggling to keep weight on from illness or what have you. In my case I had dropped to the point I was wearing kids clothes. The problem was I didn't want to eat........I needed to stimulate the appetite and the only way I know of to do that is (sorry 2 those who don't like it) using marijuana. It helps with pain which was making me not want to eat in the 1st place, makes food sound a little more appealing(with out it I look at my family like they've lost their ever loving mind......DINNER? yuck), and if the pain and just being sick of feeling pain 24/7 is making you anxious it helps there as well. Wish you luck. And my family would just love to help me out with my weight the same way Kev-O wants to........"here have some of mine". :lmao: I loose 10lbs in a week and somehow they're the ones who get that 10lbs.

I think we can all agree that WEIGHT GAIN should not equate to FAT GAIN. Though having some fat helps for insulation, cushioning, etc., for most of us losing fat would be ideal.

I think what you're looking for is muscle gain. Make sure you don't gain a lot of fat by consuming a lot of 'empty' calories like junk food, alcohol, fatty fried foods etc. You should also couple your revised eating plan with sufficient muscle exercise.
