Tarkus hit it on the head. If you aren't willing to shoot to kill,,, why carry at all?

Safety is a state of mind. It is the absence of fear. One should do the things that allow them to free of fear,, or at least,, free enough. Otherwise we would never leave our beds. If classes do it for you ,, good,,,, if carrying a shotgun is necessary,,, good luck with that. For me,,, staying aware of my surroundings generally does it for me.

Your right..For example: Weve had several instances lately in these parts where there were robberies etc, where witneeses on the scene were packing and did nothing...When the congresswoman in Arizona and others were shot a man on the scene was packing as well and failed to act..I agree, don't carry if ya can't pull the trigger. What's the point?....

Actually thoses people showed great restraint.
What I should have said is "don't PULL your gun unless you are ready to shoot".

There is a fine line between "personal safety" and "vigilante". Some things are better left to law enforcement.
If everyone who carried a gun shot in these situations it would become the wild west .

I know that story well, I've been there. I carry so I obviously like the idea.
I think what comes into play here is " there are no more well mannered men than those in a room where everyone is armed."

We also have the Arichie Bunker school of how to stop hijacking. "what you do there is pass out the heat when they get on the plane and collect the guns when they get off."
Ya gotta love it !

I guess it's whatever way ya look at a thing..If I had been inside that store in Arizona and packing when that nut shot all those folks in the parking lot I'm certain I would of put a few rounds in his sorry ass..I couldn't of stood by and watched someone slaughter innocent people knowing I could of done something about it..Fact is: Law enforcement is not always on the scene...One man's vigilante is another man's hero...

Hey I'd like to,have poped the guy also but the only way to nail him without collateral damage would be after the bloodbath. I was a sharpe shooter in the service and you would have to be an amazing marksman to get him in the act.

Too old, too crippled to physically "Fight" I pack a Colt Defender .45 Auto. Situational awareness is the key, I avoid places that common sense tells one not to be, and I have a habit of watching my six. I have no problem with capping someone that thinks they want to see how easy a mark I am. I'll just wave to the folks as I roll through the grand jury room on my way to take my nap at home. :)

About three years ago, I was walking my dog with my electric scooter. A guy on the sidewalk in front of us positioned himself in the middle of the sidewalk and was waving his hands to get us to stop. I thought he wanted to get a closer look at my scooter - that had happened before. But, as we approached him, he said "I'll give you $500 for that dog". I told him that was about what my wife had paid for the dog. Then he said he had contacts with some business that trained service dogs. His appearance said otherwise. I had made a "glove compartment" out of an old tin box that had had chocolate in it. He saw the label on the tin box and asked if I had any chocolate. I told him I didn't which was true. Then he asked if I had any cigarettes. I told him I didn't which was true. Then he reached over and opened up the lid to my "glove compartment". I reached over and shut the lid as quickly. Then I told him to move since I was going on my way. Instead of moving out of the way, he positioned himself right in front of my scooter. I again told him to move because I was going. He grabbed my handlebars and crouched down bracing himself to prevent me from going. I told him I was going, and I gave it the gas (or electricity). My scooter has lots of torque. When he felt my scooter moving him down the sidewalk, he found some way to get out of the way. I rode on past and kept going.

I don't think he was hurt. Also, he was probably just a bum not someone out to assault someone. Nevertheless, you don't get to "go through my stuff" and you don't get to detain me against my will.
