Hi, can anyone remember a story in the papers about 14-18 months ago about a beautiful young woman about 25 years old who was in a night club when a man fell on to her from a balcony breaking her neck?
She was in Stokemandville I think.

I was wondering if anyone knew what recovery she made??

Cheers

Hi,

Is this the article you are refering to?

This is LONDON

Woman paralysed by clubber
By Rebecca Smith And Hamant Verma, Evening Standard

Beautician Lorraine Mack was enjoying life to the full, supported by a loving family and with a handsome Italian boyfriend.

But a bizarre incident in a nightclub has left her paralysed from the neck down, possibly for life.

Her family still does not know exactly what happened that night in Pacha, near Victoria Station. It might have been an accident; it could have been a deliberate prank.

All they know is that a heavily built man, about 17 stone according to witnesses, plunged from a first-floor balcony and landed on the 30-year-old. She is now in hospital being treated for spinal injuries.

Her brother, Tony Mack, 39, has appealed for any witnesses at the club, which was full, to come forward.

He said: "She had only been in the club for about 20 minutes with some friends and her boyfriend, Gianluca, who had come over from Italy to see her.

"Now she is lying in hospital and might be paralysed from the neck down. She can get into a wheelchair for a couple of hours a day and we can take her out into the gardens but it is very slow and very difficult."

He added: "We lost our father, Thomas, only 18 months ago and were just getting over that."

Mr Mack has taken time off work to be with Lorraine, their brother Gary and their mother Maureen. He said: "Lorraine is devastated. We are trying to keep her spirits up but she has very low times and we try not to talk about what happened.

"We are a very close family and are trying to draw on some inner strength to get her through. She is a gorgeous girl and we all hope she will be one of the lucky ones and get better. But we don't know if it will be permanent or not yet."

Brother Gary, 38, said: "We are giving her as much love as we can and that is helping. She is our baby sister and all our lives we have tried to protect her. It is hard to accept that we couldn't protect her from this."

Miss Mack, who works at Fenwicks department store in New Bond Street and lives with her family in Hackney, is being treated at the spinal injuries unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Tony Mack said: "We were all in bed when the police called at 1.45am. For Lorraine, the incident is pretty much a blur. It knocked her out.

"All she remembers is being hit by a body and lying on the floor unable to move.

"She is distressed. There have been plenty of tears." He added: "We are all dealing with it on a day-to-day basis. There is no talk of the future. It has put an intense strain on the family, both physically and emotionally.

"We have got to get to the bottom of this. That will make a big difference. If it was deliberate we want the law to take its course. It would be unbelievable that someone would do that."

Detective Inspector Steve Ray, of Belgravia police, said of the 12 March incident: "We are not sure if it came from a fall, jump or push."

A 22-year-old man was arrested and released on bail. Anyone with information should contact DC Des Noble on 020 7321 6864, or DI Ray on 020 7321 6732.

Lucky

You posted this last year. Well today I spotted a small column in the paper. Apparently the court case is being heard. This guy was stoned out his brain on vodka, coke and ecstacy when he fell on Lorraine. She felt a thud on her shoulders and head, fell backwards and hit her head on the floor. Now she is left with sensation only in her elbow and shoulder.

Very sad case. Wonder how it will end.

Not much but thought you may be interested.
