Hiya!

I hope my post finds you all well and in good health.

So, umm.. I haven't travelled overseas since I had my accident many many moons ago, and I mean many lol. A friend of mine has invited me to Dubai which I am seriously contemplating. Problem is, I wouldn't know where to begin. I have read a few other topics and I'm already freaking out. So please anyone who can point me in the right direction I would be so grateful. any Kiwis who have done the long trip from Auckland to Dubai your help would be immensely appreciated. Not worried about accommodation, it's the loooooong plane trip... Eeeeeek!

Thanks for listening

May God bless you all,, take care!

You should talk to Nomis. He is a real problem solver. I think.
He is a kiwi also. there are several kiwis on this forum and from what I have read they a seem like good people.
Good luck. I hope you get to take your trip. no worries mate!
got a light?

I am permanently based in a wheelchair, and have made more 14-18 hour international flights than I care to remember. Not enjoyable, more of an endurance, but nevertheless a means to an end.

The key, if at all possible, is to try and break your journey up.

You probably will travel west, so I would suggest flying first across to Perth, Oz, and over-nighting there. From Perth I would then either go direct to Dubai, or consider flying from Perth to Johannesburg (overnight again) and then Johannesburg to Dubai.

The overnights will allow you to boost your liquid levels and keep your bladder and bowels on some sort of an even keel. The problem with long 18+ hour flights is that your liquid and food intake is affected because one cannot access the toilets. My philosophy is to rather take 2-3 days to get there, but get there feeling human, rather than going for broke with one long journey and getting there feeling like a wreck.

It's a hassle, but as I mentioned earlier, it's a means to an end.
