How do you keep the pants dry, when pulling them over your feet. Do you dry off the bottom of the shower?

If you have dried yourself pretty thoroughly at this point, you've probably managed to dry off everything near you in the process. You shouldnt have to worry about your pants getting wet. The bottom of your feet may be a little wet but not enough to soak your pants.
Im pretty lazy and like to keep my efforts minimum, so this is definitly the most effective for me. It doesnt require transfering, worrying about slick surfaces, or dragging my bare skin.

My choice of style (for a para) is half the towel over the chair cushion, the other half modestly covering my, ahh, lap. Transfer to shower bench. Coming back same. Dry self off best as I can with 2nd towel then transfer on to bed, removing now wet towel from chair and use it for toes. Make sure crotch is dry before dressing. Same method when using a bath, only a bigger transfer and more important to hover a moment to drain excess water.

Been a little busy dad in hospital. Needs a quadruple by pass what ever that means. Came up all of a sudden. I actually felt weird visiting because I have never been the person outside the bed. Felt strange. Dad finally knows what its like to be in bed bored. He won't yell about me always sleeping in the hospital anymore.
Now as far as drying and transfering from shower to chair. I sometimes use a towel or plastic bag to stop chair cushion from getting wet. Transfer is pretty easy for me cause I have very strong arms. Do most of drying in shower before leaving it. Usually dress in chair and will sometimes drip dry or sit in front of a fan. I actually sweat getting dressed. Even sweat while showering or swimming. It all takes so much effort. Have an idea, I'm gonna become a nudist so I will not have to worry...LOL One more tip for the guys but it might be a little to much information. I actually shave all body hair off. Chest, underarms, back and private. It helps keep my supa pubic catheder clean and helps me dry quicker. Also if I can't shower everyday it is easier to wipe down and be odor free!
Sorry about starting off the topic..just had dad on my mind! :-(
Peace !

Hey Motor,
sorry to hear about your Dad's situation. Please do take solace in the fact that the outlook is very good for people who have Heart bypasses. I used to be a sr RN in CCU and we would have people in hospital who couldn't move they were that unwell PRE surgery and then post they would be up and about in DAYS and then when they came back to see us a short while later they were doing things they never imagined they would again..and this is the NORM of that situation!
In answer to your question, a Quadruple bypass is when the arteries become blocked and a new way is created to "bypass" this blockage and take blood to the heart. Doctors call it "bypass graft" surgery, and sometimes CABG ( cabage stands for Croronary Artery Bypass Graft ). Bypass uses a working blood vessel from another part of the body (the graft) to direct and take blood around the blocked area and to the heart.
Quadruple bypass surgery is when several arteries are blocked, and several bypasses are needed. When, as in the case of your Dad, there are blockages in all three coronary arteries and one branch for example, a person would get four bypasses.
I hope that this helps and plesae do let us know how he is progressing. i know its worrying but do hang in there. I have posted this here instead of a PM, in case others also wanted to know what a Bypass actually is.
Take care,
K

Hope everybody's tail quarters are survivin'. Not a shower transfer episode, but (butt) nailed myself yesterday hoppin' off the couch, back onto my chair. I missed, dammit. Managed to land smack dab on my tail bone - didn't feel it, of course. But got the sweats all of a sudden. Had to get outside asap - get some cold air. Geesch! I can only imagine what it must've felt like when you hit the floor, Ches. Poor kid, couldn't very well wheel outside for some fresh air.... ARG! (OK - I promise this is the last time I will try to embarrass you publicly. And I never tell a lie....) Good luck to everybody on your transfers - think I'm gonna invest in a skyhook.

The fear of falling is by far worse than the pain for us. I just sat there in the bath like What the hell just happened. I took some time to go ahead and rinse off and finish my bath.. In tears but knowing I was ok.. I hate falling. lol
Good Luck with that .. all of you

Ditto on that falling spooks! I was doing some research in the local medical library yesterday. Found some stuff, backed up suddenly, hit a patch of carpet I fogot was there and almost went over backwards - I hate that! Adrenalin's cool stuff, but when it comes in doses under those circumstances, it just isn't pleasant. I had to take a second to mellow out, then go back to the books. Kept an eye on the carpet after that - duh. Been lucky so far - haven't dumped in the shower.

I'll never forget my first fall.. I was just getting on the bed. And to make a long story short, I basically FIGURED I could lessen my hassle and have my chair roll out of the way as I jumped over the bed. So I left the breaks off.. I never made it to the bed, just the floor. Where I sat and laughed, and laughed... How smart am I?

Adrenalin rushes! I had a good dose two days ago. We'd just gotten a little snow, and it froze overnight. Well, I'd been goin' downtown to see my girlfriend on a daily basis. Had to wait til the traffic had busted up the ice, and the sun finally decided to warm things up some. This little town is in the Sierra foothills, so it's all up and down - no flat stuff - great for workin' out. So I'm wheelin' down the road (about a 12% grade), wasn't payin' close attention to the pavement, and hit a patch of ice. My chair starts goin' sideways, pickin' up speed - I figured, Shit - I'm dead. Over the edge any second. I gave a little lurch toward the edge of the road - still some snow. and my rear tire grabbed. I straightened out. Stopped. Didn't even piss my pants! And went the rest of the half mile down the hill in the snow, not on the pavement. Tell ya' what, though - that couple o' seconds of ridin' the ice was a trip. Don't wanna do it again real soon, but sure gave me some energy to make the trip into town!
