Tom's wonderful friends have just successfully remodeled our bathroom to make the shower accessible for Tom. Now we have to find a shower chair that will work!

Showering is a 95% assist in our situation. Tom is unable to assist in transferring. I use a hoyer.

These are my issues while searching online:

We only have a budget of $1000 max. Of course, we'd like to spend as little as possible...

Tom is a C-5 with no trunk control, and sitting at a 90 degree angle (straight up) makes him lightheaded.

Tom is also 6 foot 2 inches tall. A PVC chair bought out of the store does not accommodate his height.

There is only 21 working inches on the shower floor... we'd definitely need casters instead of wheels.

Can anyone help us out with ideas or links? We have gotten Tom in the shower twice, with much difficulty to me, using a plastic lawn chair.

A picture of our shower can be seen here.

The whole remodel album can be seen here.

Try this web site: www.carecatalogservices.com we have gotten most of our stuff off it is and they usually reasonable. We even got our travel shower bench there. My guy is 6'3'' and uses the gaurdian and they are pretty sturdy, he has some trunk control.

Thanks, I will check it out. It seems like their site is going through a major overhaul, though. It might be a while.

Hi there, everyone. We've decided on a shower chair. After calling Invacare and asking them if they did modifications to shower chairs (in which they replied 'No'), we decided the best option for Tom's tall frame was this one. We'll most likely raise the foot rests after getting him into the shower and set his feet on the floor.

Our biggest obstacle in choosing a shower chair was remembering that this was not a full time chair... it was for showers only. Therefore it doesn't need to be absolutely perfect, just workable.

Hi Sheila. Here's a tilt in space shower chair. And priced real well, for the chair. I think that they retail for 2 grand or more.
