I just got this email and it reminded me of the time I met Heather. This was before she even met Paul McCartney...
It was January but it was lovely and sunny here in southern Portugal, but not warm enough to be swimming in the sea or pool. In came this young guy asking if I could help him with info on accessible sport and leisure venues as he was with a disabled model and they were taking "disability action" shots for a calender to promote disabled sports etc.
As it was January and out of season, I was struggling to think of places they could go and things they could do - not interested in sailing, jet skiing was no good, karting not "her thing" etc etc.
Then, my office doors swings open and in rushes this scruffy skinny woman, shouting, "What's taking so long?" I explained there weren't many options but how about the ones I suggested? She was really rude and aggressive, so I had a little idea!
A friend of mine is a good water-skier and has a new design of water-ski, similar to a hydro-foil. You sit and after taking off and reaching a certain speed, the hydro-foil pushes the skier even further in the air... it's amazing to watch but no good for us. I had this ski thingy behind my desk, waiting to my friend to come and pick it up.
I said, "Heather, this is what you're looking for! It's really easy to use and designed for rough water. It'll take a few practices to get used to it, but it's really easy - even I can do it. Use it in the sea as this is where you'll get the best out of it, and good photos!"
Off they went with only this ski thing, heading for a beach to try it out. A few days later, in comes the young guy with my ski thing. "How did you guys get on with the skiing?" I asked. He replied, "Heather just couldn't get it working and lost her temper as things were taking too long and she was freezing in the sea, and the sea was rough!"
I still laugh about that!
