Hi everyone!!! Hope all had a happy Thanksgiving!!!

Well where to start... My brother has been a para for 30 years now. He was accidentally shot in the neck by a 22 caliper rifle at the age of 5. Eddy has progressed much better than the doctors originally told us he would. He held a job with the post office for several years and is in forced retirement due to health issues.

Eddy married his high school sweetheart after dating her for 3 years. All of these years the disability has not been an issue. She did leave him one time and returned to him pregnant. Eddy had accepted the girl as his and raised her for the last 15 years. One month ago his wife decided she wanted a "whole" man. My brother awoke one morning to a note on his pillow explaining that she was gone and he should continue to take care of their daughter.

Many of you will understand what he is going thru at this time. He has driven a car but shortly after their marriage she "lost" the hand controls his family had purchased for him and he has been dependant on her to drive him everywhere he needed to go since.

He does own a car. a 2000 Hyundai Elantra and is tired of waiting for someone to take him where he needs to go. His daughter Katie is registered in a private school and he is to provide her transportation to and from school daily. Being unable to drive himself is slowly beginning to put him into what iI believe is a form of depression. For this reason I am attempting to find a set of hand controls for him and would like very much to have him set-up before the christmas season.

If you have any options for finding or assistaing to buy these controls please return this mail.

Thank you in advance...
a desperate sister

You could also probably check with any local place that does conversations for the disabled and they probably know all the ways to get them paid for. I looked up a place I know locally and under super pages they are under all these catagories:
Wheelchair Lifts & Scooters, Auto Rental, Van Leasing, Van Rental, Van & Truck Conversions & Accessories

But I know they deal with all kinds of government and other agencies that pay for hand controls, lifts and ect. They place here even sells used and new already converted ones.

Sportaid carries a couple portable models which seem reasonably priced. Depending on where you are located, you can probably find someone who specializes in installing them but pretty much anyone who is mechanically inclined can do it.
