First, thx for a great forum. I've been reading through and replying to some. I really am glad I found this.

I broke my T12 in August. My injury was incomplete, but the surgeons all were convinced I'd be a paraplegic. Fortunely, I'm not. But I do have limited control of the muscles in the back of my legs and butt. I have to cath and digital stimulate.

My wife and I have been researching and keep getting conflicting information about what to expect. Even the doctors tell me everything should come back, then say what ever doesn't come back in a year's time probably won't. My Urologist is trying different meds, but so far nothing has changed.

I'd like to hear from some of you about your experience in this area. I realize everyone is different, etc. But it's been almost four months and nothing has improved. In fact, when I got home from rehab I could pass some urine on my own. Now, nothing - and I try every time I cath.

My son (18 yrs old) broke his L-2 in a auto accident. We were told that the possibility of him walking was slim to non BUT with alot of hopes and Prayers he is actually walking again and back to work(construction). He still has no control of the bladder...self-caths every 4 hours...but has regained control of his bowl. He is just 1 yr past the injury anniversary Oct 2006...and since Feb of 2007 has had complete control of his bowel...Watches what he eats ect but it's working...we keep hoping that the bladder will come back but...??? he has been seeing an accupuncturist for the past year and also uses vitamins and essential oils...and i think that has alot to do with him regaining his ability to walk and poop...now if we could just pee!!! His attitude is GREAT...and still has never gave up...so HANG in There...STAY POSITIVE...SURE TO BET THAT GREAT THINGS WILL COME YOUR WAY.

Thx. I had a visit with my physiologist on Tuesday (who is a quad, btw). He told me that the rule-of-thumb for recovery is one year for a complete and two years for an incomplete injury. He didn't seem too concerned about my progress, or lack there of.
