One thing I noticed in the past (before my injury) was that if I allowed my hands/arms to get cold enough, I would lose finger strength until they were warmed up again. Well, duh ... anyone who knows about hypothermia knows that ..

Anyway, after my injury my left arm / hand was weakened. There is some lingering numbness under the fingers, mostly the first three (index, middle, ring). I'm told that might be a result of a pinched nerve. The numbness has been slowly on the decline. I'm guessing that it's a peripheral nerve situation that will slowly get better (?)

In the three months since my injury I've gotten a lot of strength back in that arm / hand - not 100%, but very much improved. I've been doing weight training and hand & finger exercises, and I'm sure there has been a decrease in swelling at the spinal cord injury site.

However I'm noticing that it takes a lot less cold to make the fingers on that hand weak. If it's chilly my left hand seems to almost just stop working, whereas my right hand seems to work just fine. It's as though I was back in the ICU all over again ..

Has anyone experienced something similar ? Did it improve over time ? Any idea what's going on ?

Thanks for any insights,
-Rob
