Hi, I have been a quad since Feb 99, I have a SPC and I am prone to getting Oxalate and Calcium stones. I use a Kendall Ultramer silicone 18Fr catheter.

I drink at least 4 liters of water a day. I have a lot of sediment that can sometimes block my catheter within a week of it being changed. It comes out in really long strands. I find I have to squeeze my catheter from the bottom to the top and often big chunks come out. Since I left hospital I have never had a UTI. I was taking Sodibic and Allopurinol, but my Dr has changed me from Sodibic to Ural. I am also on a low oxalate diet.

Does anyone have any suggestions on reducing the amount of sediment or maybe a different catheter.

Hi coxie
You are drinking ample, perhaps change what you are drinking? Or change your meds?
I accumulate alot of sediment overnight, & find that if I have my catheter squeezed to bring it down, it backs up the majority of the big sediment & blocks, so I drink alot & let it freeflow until it runs clear. Try tapping/flicking instead of squeezing it.
Good luck.

I did mean water, but juice, herbal teas, coffee whatever. Cranberry juice is my bodies preferred preventative from UTI's.
I hope the Ural keeps working for you.

Welcome to the board.

No uti's, AWESOME!

Have you had surgery to remove the stones?

I've had my spc 17 yrs & several uti's (got rid of quickly)
& surgery to remove stones 3 times.

If you're having to have the cath changed weekly,
you're running a risk of getting a uti.

Sounds like time to have surgery & remove the stones.

The stones are just part of having a spc.

I'm taking uroquid now trying to help prevent them.
Not sure if it'll help yet.
