Hi all,

my friend (he is a C5 quad) (and i am writing for hime because he does not know English) has tried to light his cigarette with a normal lighter hundreds of times, but not successfully so far.

Does anyone have a tip for an adaptation if a ligher?
Or simply how do you light your cigarettes?

I have read the tip by Quadved a few pages earlier. Great idea, but how exactly is it made?

I have limited use of my arms and hands...... I used to have my son remove the child protection crap off a Bic lighter...... I was able to prop it up in my right hand and strike it with the ball of my thumb on my left hand..... It took a lot of practice to strike it and keep pressure on the butane button......

Someimes I turned on the stove and lit them...... Depends on how desperate you are.....

smoking is terrible for the body.

if you must, use a BBQ lighter for the bigger trigger.

I'll relay a true story that was relayed to me. I hope I get it close enough.
A construction worker involved in a a terrible on-site accident went to the ER/hospital, carrying his severed fingers seeking a surgeon to reattach them. The nurses/ doctors went to a surgeon with the emergency. the surgeon asked the man specifically if he was a smoker. and he said yes. The surgeon told him he wouldn't do the surgery. The man sought another surgeon, and that one asked the same question. The man hoping to get his fingers back replied yes, and asked why that mattered. The surgeon told him he'd only perform the procedure if the man quit smoking cold turkey then and there, and never had another not even a single puff! The man, wanting his fingers back agreed. A few weeks after the reattachment, teh man came back in with his fingers white as can be and unable to function(obviously dead tissue.) The surgeon knew right away and told the man,"You've been smoking." The man nodded, and said what's that have to do with it? The surgeon told him that smoking constricts the blood vessels. By smoking, enough blood could not reach his fingers through the narrow passage allowing them to function and heal.
the fingers' tissue died, and had to be removed again.

my mother relayed this to me from her foot doctor.

now I just think of a para's already poor blood flow through lower extremities, and wonder what that's doing to the legs.

VITAJTE SA! i am a smoker and everyone knows its bad for you but i am sure that is the advice your friend does not want to hear, we are bombarded with it all the time and it's frankly boring

Thanks everybody for the advice. Well i know smoking is BAD and surely this guy knows it too.
But you know, even if he stops smoking cigarettes, I guess he will continue smoking marihuana from time to time. And it would be great if he can light it himself ;-)
Lighting it at the gas stove seems a bit dangerous, but ok I will tell him :-)

How about one of those gas grille/crack pipe lighters? Might be easier to get a grip on and light.

If those won't work, i found a huge selection of lighters at bugstore dot com thanks to google.

Zippo lighters can be easy to. You don't have to worry about holding down the button but you have to be more careful since the flame is much bigger.

dont use a strike lighter use a click spark one...remove the safty, put it between your fingers with the butt on your on your palm, then use other hand to push down the clicker.

Maybe try a few of the silly novelty-type lighters? Some have designs that are pretty easy to use, and are large and bulky enough to hold on to. I had a fire-breathing cow that worked beautifully for me, until she pootered out. >.< Or try a torch lighter?


Overall I'd just test out a few different types until you find the one.

I am fond of my Zippo, the problem with it is if dropped lit it will not go out but will remain lit, a true hazard.

Ha ha, funny. Yes I know smoking is bad, but this guy knows it just as well and doesn't need me to tell him, am sure he has enough other things in mind to cope with ;-) A lighter shaped as a cow...wow. Anyway guess what, now he said he was trying to light his cigarrette in a pub and had just matches and after trying 100x he lit it by normal matches :-) Strange.

MY LORD! DON'T USE THE GAS STOVE OR ANY STOVE IN THAT MATTER. Use a toaster. ;-) Works well for me. I smoke pot too but only with the help of others and before bed. If I could pack and light a bowl I would never get anything done.

I bring the toaster to the edge of the counter. Put the cig in my mouth and push down the handle. I then slightly lean over and put the smoke on the top wire, give it a toke and poof it's lit. Be sure to push the knob up when done. Enjoy the smoke then ask your doctor for a scrip for Chantex. That srtuff really works and helps with concentration. Now my toaster is just for toast and pop tarts.

Second hand smoke, automobile exhaust, powerplant/factory effluents, water/air/noise polution, antibiotic/growth hormones in our food supply, radon, and many thousand others, both known and unknown.

All good examples of why we, as a species, have no right to continue on this planet. What we do to ourselves and what we do to others, helps prove that we are not in a symbiotic relationship with nature. As the parasites we are, we will surely weaken our world to the point it can no longer support us.

My thought is; THE SOONER THE BETTER!!!

Use it up, throw it out, waste it. Why bother trying to change what it is we do best?? The sooner the world is rid of this pervasive weed (us) the sooner it can begin to heal, and someday,, perhaps,, play host to more worthy plant.

God, I laughed when I read that! My parents both smoked and as far as I am aware I am not stupid (I am a registered nurse and lawyer) and don't smoke but if/when I do become stupid and start smoking I'll know who to blame!

Holy cow!! Hate much? Smokers shouldn't be allowed to breed? And as my cousin recently went through cancer, she is 8, and after all of the damn research our family did, I can tell you for a fact that 90 percent of children cancer victims are not due to having heavily smoking parents. I agree (because I have children) that people who choose to smoke should not do so in their homes or even in the car with their children (I learned this firsthand because I used to smoke... my daughter constantly had ear infections, until the doc told me it was the smoke... I started going outside to smoke, and would change my shirt when I came in).... and calling the children of smokers "stupid" is completely assholeish of yourself... you cant insult a child because of something their parents do...

My mother smoked the entire time I was growing up, always outside... she drank too. Does that mean I should be smoking 3 packs a day and a handling a raging alcohol addiction? Your line of thinking is completely assanine. I am currently in University, working as an advocate and starting a consulting business with a larger company. I'm also known to smoke a cigarette with a glass of wine when I have the rare time away from my family, business and school obligations. Get over yourself.

yes i agree with you its a good idea to ban smoking in enclosed spaces maybe they should ban exhaust fumes from cars as well that plays havoc with my sisters asthma!

I think it was the general consensus since there is now a Smoking ban in public places ( enclosed) in Scotland, England , N Ireland and Wales, with England and Wales being the last ones.

Statistically those who grew-up in smoker's homes are less prone to lung cancer than those who were not, regardless of their own smoking habits later in life.

Once again, the water as fuel idea , I never expected to see it here.

Most of us have already been disappointed by the many pseudo-scientific claims of cures enough to make us sceptical of stuff like this.

This premise has been debunked so many times that it seems it shouldn't be neccessary again, but it always is. Wishful thinking is something I know intimately.

The energy needed to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen is greater than the energy obtained by combining them.

As you've probably deduced, I don't believe in magic or ghosts, either.
