Hi everyone

Anyone interested in talking about Rugby or motor racing I could even stretch to football if anyone else out there supports Spurs! I am a season ticket holder for Gloucester Rugby and spend every other saturday drinking too much in the club bar before giving the touch judge lots of grief from the sidelines. I also go all over Europe watching formula 1.

Hi Jules,

In the year before my accident, I travelled and filmed Formula 1, as I was a freelance video cameraman. I did the first half of the season, and a bit of F1 Bike racing as well.

I used to film pre-qualifying and qualifying in the pits, and then go on-track on race day. needless to say, it was a great job!

I still watch it on TV, but haven't been to a race for quite a while now.

Are you going to any races this year?

Regards

Simon

I've already booked up for Silverstone, we are sat at Woodcote corner, and hopefully going to Barcelona. Also going to the Goodwood Festival of speed.

I'd book a couple of extra days at Barcelona, as it's a great city, and plenty of places to visit.

I prefer NASCAR, but only at the fast tracks like Daytona & Talladega.

Football only seems to get my interest in championship games. I'm not a full season fan (fanatic).

Rugby doesn't seem to exist on my planet. The most I've seen, here, are highlight clips from games long past.

Now, I've gotta fetch out my knife, go in back to da pub kitchen and start chop-prep for bar appe-tezzers.

Here's how it starts...

*chop chop chop*

BTW, Dave,

I'll need the chicken back when you're done molesting it.

Hi Guys

I am a big Lewis Hamilton fan, I saw him many years ago at Autosport International when he had just signed to McLaren. Also like Jenson Button, he's a very good driver but has had rubbish cars recently. I'm off to Swansea tomorrow to watch Gloucester play the Ospreys in the Heineken Cup, we are top of our group and hopefully will win tomorrow, but it's going to be tight. It is forcast to rain so it'll be proper "up your jumper" 10 man rugby tomorrow, it will be one of those brilliant games where you can barely tell which team is yours because they are so covered in mud! Plus it's going to be cold, so the scrums will actually steam!

Jim, I'm not too stuck on who wins or loses. I'm just looking for a good game; maybe one where the score suddenly turns around, the underdog unexpectedly comes back and ties at the end to go into overtime or double overtime.

Ahhh, that’s the spirit!

It warms my heart to read such things when I thought women might choose to avoid our little pub for all of the “less-than-proper” language that we tend to use, here.

Now, here’s something for our pretty, little, blood-soaked, barbarian maiden with the battle axe.

Thanks for the pint woodman. Sadly Glos lost on Saturday, but we are still top of our heineken cup pool, if we beat Ulster at Castle Grim (kingsholm) on Sunday then we will get a home Q/F, plus we're still top of the Premiership. Don't worry about the language, as my husband can vouch I say things at Rugby that would make a docker blush (to use a scouse expression)

I think rugby would go over well here in the states, as it seems to be a cross between american football and cage fighting. Both of those seem to be quite popular here. If we could get all the players into cars for the games, we might pick up the nascar crowd , too.

Patriots?????

What's with letting a team that admitted to cheating, play in the post season, anyway. Should have been barred from the playoffs, IMHO.

Got any Guiness on tap???

I agree the patriots got a slap on the hand. IMO they should be barred from the playoffs for the next couple years.

I would have loved to play rugby. I was good at football an loved to hit (not punch) people. To bad they dont have rugby for para's......... or do they, anybody know?

Hi Everyone

I've always thought that rugby would go down well in the USA as well. The current USA coach used to be the coach at Gloucester, Nigel Melville. He seems quite confident that rugby could be popular in the USA too, I'm not sure whether Rugby Union or Rugby League would be more popular, League is more popular in the North of England, whereas Union is played everywhere else, and is practically a religion in Wales. Which one do you think would be more succesful

The one sport that I love but I don't think would go down well in the US is Cricket !

Not wanting to sound ignorant ( tho that often becomes apparant anyway) , what is the difference between union and league rugby.

Thanks Woodman, It is an acquired taste, but once acquired, it sticks with you. Maybe it's the superior head of foam,,,, we all like superior head.

You don't sound ignorant, most non rugby fans don't know either. The history of it is that Rugby league spilt from union (1895 I think), up until 1996 the main difference was that League was professional and Union was amateur (even for internationals), but in 1996 Union turned professional. The game is played very differently too, League has 13 players per team and union 15, there are no flankers in league (flankers play on either side in the back row of the scrum). Scrums are uncontested in league, whereas in union both sides will push against each other. In league each team has 6 tackles to try and score a try, on the 6th tackle, the ball has to be kicked. At the tackle area a player has to be released by the tackler and play continues. In union there is no limit to the number of tackles, the tackle area can either become a ruck (on the floor) or a maul (ball held in the air) during a ruck players must use their feet to free the ball.

I'm sure I will have either bored everyone or confused them totally now, if you want to see some action then type gloucester rugby into U tube and have a look.

Is sounds like one of those sports were you can explain it till your blue in the face an people still will not get it until they watch it. I think if i was watching it an someone explained it, everything would start clicking :)

I think you're right Kev, but that certainly applies to cricket! The best reaction to wtaching Rugby is my mum, when a player is trying to ruck an opposition player off the ball (using his boots) and mum starts saying that is dirty play, and I have to explain that its allowed.

Hello everyone

Remember to have a drink for me at 1.00 GMT tomorrow, Gloucester kick off at 1 against Ulster, a win and we're in the Quarter finals of the Heineken Cup, hopefully as group winners. Lunchtime kick offs are a nightmare because you have to be in the club bar by 12 at the latest. At least its better than last year though, we had a 12.00 kick off against Edinburgh away. The pub opposite the ground had to open at 10.00 for us to start drinking. After a bonus point win there were several thousand very drunk Gloucester fans going on a long pub crawl from the ground back to Edinburgh!
 Jules

 Jules

Drank 2 for ya.......

Good Luck, Jim

Cheers Jim,
If I am sober enough tomorrow (after hopefully celebrating a win) I'll post the score for you.
