Can anyone give me any advice about van rental in california, for vans where the wheelchair user is sitting in the vehicle in the wheelchair. the smaller size the van the better but needs to have ample head room?

Hi, my boyfriend and I are trying to plan a holiday to either the USA or Australia. He is C3 incomplete and has no movement below the shoulders, so as it is just going to be the two of us travelling we really need to find accomodation with a hoist. We live in england, and we have a portable hoist but it is huge and weighs tonnes so its not very practical to take overseas especially when we have to take lots of other equipment like an airflow matress and a shower chair - we're going to be way over the baggage allowance already!
I was wondering if anybody know's anywhere in either country which has hoists, and if there is anybody with a similar level of injury who has done this kind of thing themselves and could offer any advice. We've been on holiday before o portugal but there was 5 other people travelling with us so it was alot easier than just me and him alone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm finding it really difficult to get the info I need from the internet.
Many thanks,
Kat and Cameron

I know here in the USA there are some medical supply places that will rent some things. I have no idea where you are wanting to go here but you might look in the yellow pages on the cities you want to go and see if there is any medical supply places that have rentals and what they have available. I know there is even a van conversion place that has rental vans.

i think we've decided to go to california and rent a van so we can travel around a bit, so now we're thinkin we either need to buy a hoist in the uk that is collapsable and reasonably small to take with us or find one in california that we can hire. if anybody knows any useful websites relating to either of these things the info will be greatly appreciated.

Hi! My fiance and I have been using Wheelchair Getaways for the past couple years. They are really great. I am not sure if they are located near you, but you could check out their website.
