Hi all,

have developed a pressure sore on the bottom of my right foot which is healing using silver dressings. However, I am also having showers and am getting my feet wet and so the dressing has to be changed. Silver needs to stay on for afew days between changes to work to it's fullest potential, so I need a sock which is effectively waterproof so I can shower and can still leave my foot alone.

Anyone know of any socks which will do the trick?

Thanks,

Rachel

Yes, I would agree with the above. There are cast covers which can be purchased to go over casts and dressings. However, hospitals, clinics and folks at home tend to use waterproof bags and soft elastic ( not too tight) or tape ( be sure doesn't touch the skin and it it does that it doesn't split the skin).

I have vivid memories of my Cousin, who was older than I, fracturing her arm just before she was supposed to come on holidays with us, as a child. She did come and she had a full length cast to her arm pit and we went to the beach, and she showered using a bag over the cast, tucked into the top!

It was a fun week, :)

If you do want a cast cover, simply google for "plaster cast cover", I did and got lots.

I hope this helps,

Take care,

K

i'm a huge fan of ducktape :) . when i burned the side of my calf sitting to close to a fire , i used plastic bag and the paper tape. you can use it on your skin. i put the bag over the area and put the paper tape at the top , sealing the bag at the skin with the tape. your only in the shower for 15 minutes or so. just don't wrap it real tight.
i only wanted to have some fun

Yes, bands include: "Micropore®", "Transpore® tape", "Bard® Tape", "Hypafix® dressing tape", "hypafix®", "Medipore®" will all do the job well. The incidence of allergy is also low for these type of 'paper' etc tapes. I personally find that my skin tears very easily even with these types of tapes ( although not so quickly) due to my Genetic collagen disorder I am also blessed with, lol. Therefore, its important to be mindful of these sorts of things if you have sensitive skin/ poor circulation, etc, before you use the tape on your skin. I would think that if you have used it before, or use skin 'patches' for pain relief for example, that you will be ok to use the tape, as always, with caution. :)

HTH too,

Take care,

K

Edited as LOL, I found the "®" symbol and couldn't resist using it!!
