Hi, I am getting woken up every hour in my sleep by really strong pins and needles in my hands, numbness and some pain too. I have tried a new orthopedic mattress and it made a change but not enough.

The lack of sleep though is driving me up the wall and have even tried sleeping pills with little success.

Anyone got any idea and was wandering if a new cushion on my chair would help, am about to get one.

i'm not sure if you have the same problem, but i had pins and needles feeling in my hands a few months back. i went to the doctor because it was causing me not to sleep well. the doctor examined me and she said that it was possible that i had 3 possibilities. 1) most likely carpal tunnel 2) herniated disk in my neck 3) slight hear attack. off course the heart attacked scared me most, but that was ruled out with an ekg. next they did a carpal tunel test and that was ruled out. i had a cat scan and that did show a herniated disk in my c5 vertebrae. the possible cause of this was my sleeping habits. i have a feeling you may have the same symptoms, check with your doctor. good luck.

sonico have you ever used a Chiropractor I am t6 t7 and get tingling and numbness sometimes and go to her and she adjusts me and I'm good to go. Ask around and get one that does gentle adjustments no bone breakers someone who works with sci.

Hi there,

I'm sorry you're in so much pain. I'm having exactly the same problem at the moment. I currently can't feel half of my right hand and the rest of it hurts!! I've posted on this subject before and have just asked for some advice on a postural support for my chair.

Do you have scoliosis? It might be that you have a trapped nerve somewhere, probably in your neck or shoulder That's what I've been told is causing mine. Definitely worth investigating.

On the chiropractor theme...I'm fused to T8 and have always felt a bit dubious about using one on my spine and there isn't alot of room for movement and for fear of doing more harm than good? what do you think?

I hope you get some relief soon.

All the best.

Well my spinal unit say it is most likely to be a trapped nerve in my neck. Either way the lack of sleep is the worst part as I only get about a hour at one time. Makes for a long day and find I start getting too tired about 3pm?!

So, whatever it is I am going back to my Doctor too see if we can get something done and look at all the possibilities too, thanks.

Well I am not sure what my Doctor has done but its improved with the aid of 5 days worth of Ibuprofen, super.

Only problem now is I still can't sleep but I am sure that will come back together all in good time.

Hiya,

Just an update. The physio diagnosed it as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and I've been wearing a wrist splint at night for a week now. It's definitely helped!

I have read a little about Carpal Tunnel. Sounds painful and hope the splints work for you, good luck!
