Wheelchair World Record Attempt

An unusual world record attempt for potential inclusion in Guinness World Records will take place at the Eden Project, St Austell, Cornwall on Saturday 19 January 2008. Wheelchair users from all over the country are being invited to establish a world record for the largest ever gathering on ice. The record attempt is being coordinated by Leanne Grose to celebrate the launch of her DVD Leanne's Chair Workout - which was filmed at the Eden Project. Leanne, who had her left leg amputated at the age of 25, says: 'There are not many opportunities for people in wheelchairs to get involved in exercise and set world records, I wanted to do something which every wheelchair user could join in with and have fun. I'm sure everybody who takes part will get a real buzz from it.'

The record attempt will take place from 11am and all wheelchair users and their carers will get free entry to the Eden Project. All those who take part will also receive a special certificate. In addition to the record attempt, there will be a special display by the Cornish Wheelchair Dance Group. Leanne will give a motivational talk and will be available to sign copies of her new autobiography, Just A Step, and her DVD, Leanne's Chair Workout between 12.30pm - 2.00pm.

Confirmation of event attendance is required, so to reserve your free place please email info@eventspr.co.uk or Tel: 01452 886380. We are not involved with the organisation or administration of this event at all, so please pass any interest and/or enquiries to Events PR directly (info@eventspr.co.uk or Tel: 01452 886380).

Just what we've all been waiting for. Hold the front page.

:lmao:

Of course, there may be some people out there who may say this is just a publicity stunt to promote the DVD.

Of course, others my say this is a truly special day, where disabled people can make there mark (or tyre tracks), in history by coming together as Guiness Book record makers.

I of course, couldn't possibly comment!

I am in a particularily critical and cynical mood today ... but!!

If I got in the Guiness book of world records just for driving up to Cornwall and sitting around in my chair ,........................ well

on realizing it and seeing my name in print!! I'd go into hiding forever!!

or am I missing something??
Life is just to short not to have fun!

Cripples on Ice

"From the moment a wheelie mate of mine had told me she'd been ice-skating, I was amused and bemused by the idea. I couldn't imagine how we'd actually wheel on the ice. Would we'd have to take to our feet in some sort of therapy session? Maybe we'd ride in the ice equivalent of those little blue invalid carriages? Perhaps we'd have to lace up little white boots with blades onto our wheels?"

Made me laugh!

And no, it isn't about diamonds or drugs! :H2kOther (26):

Wheelchairs on ice record is set

A world record has been set in Cornwall for the largest gathering of wheelchair users on ice.

A total of 48 wheelchair users from across the country took part in the attempt at the Eden Project.

Participants were told by the Guinness World Records that the event was the first of its kind in the world and it was set to be registered.

Organiser Leanne Grose said: "I wanted to do something which every wheelchair user could join in with and have fun."

During the record attempt participants performed moves from a charity fitness DVD for amputees and the elderly which Ms Grose had recently released.

Ms Grose, 26, from Truro, had to have a leg amputated after developing a tumour.

She organised the record bid to celebrate the launch of the DVD, which was filmed at the Eden Project.

"There aren't many opportunities for people in wheelchairs to get involved in exercise and set world records.

"It was a fantastic event and everyone had an amazing time."

Some of the profits of the DVD will go to the Macmillian Cancer Support.

Hi Megatrig,

Nope, you aren't the only one who cringes. Its actually a cringe for many a reason, not least b/c of the patronizing tone of it all...and 48! LMAO wow....

:(

It could of been worse, imagine if only 10 wheelchair users turned up!

A world record of 10 wheelies!

How about setting a new world record, for the largest gathering of wheelchair users on a bouncy castle!
