My advice would be to start doing your bowels around your life rather than your life around your bowels. Most active paras I know (I don't know if it's different for quads) don't go every day and like me can vary their routine comfortably by 12 hours either way at will and do so to suit whatever is going on that day or the next. I go every 36 or 48 hours to suit and can wait 60 hours on occassion.

You probably don't need to be quite so regulated and exact. Choose what's convenient to you and go with that. Try varying your routine a little at home first, you might be surprised. I know realising that I didn't have to base my life around my bowel routine was a very liberating realisation. You just need to learn how your body responds to these small changes but I suspect you might be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks Russ, I totally agree. At present, I go alternate days and vary from 4 -11am......which gives me great freedom.
However in New Zealand (have been asked to speak at a 5 day conference at 4pm....usually there's questions..expected to sit until the end 6pm then straight out to dinner....hence my dilemma......whether to change my routine to 12 hours earlier...and is that likely to result in 'accidents'.
Interesting to note you can vary 12 hours without a problem...when I mentioned I can vary my routine up to 7 hours..they were so surprised...made me assume 12 hours would be a problem...

Cheers

I have traveled to Korea 4 times, which is about a 14 hour time difference. The first trip was the only time I had trouble with my bowels but I think that was related to getting an infection from a Foley and a yeast infection. I had diarrhea. The other 3 times it was fine. I do this routine in the morning in the US and I did it in the morning while I was there. I didn't eat too much fiber for a few days before the plane trip though - I am not on the constipated side and I didn't want anything to happen on the plane!

If it was me and I was concerned I'd change to an evening routine in the UK a few weeks before leaving just to be totally on the safe side and then you'll be sorted to a am routine in NZ and if you do get any accidents they'll be when you're at home. If you already have that sort of flexibility I bet you could go the evening before you normally would in the morning without issues and probably change back in a similar fashion at will. Why don't you try it long before you leave for NZ?

Good Luck

Thanks Hanguk and Russ........great reassurance from both of you.

I'll go for it and change routine here before I go.......worst possible scenario would be a problem on the plane :-) :-)
