Hi, has anyone found a supplier who will ship 'Magic Bullets' to the UK? (well I actually live in Sweden, but if the ship to the UK then they'll ship here is my thinking).

So if you have please name them and cost if possible to save me hours of trawling Google.

TIA

:)

Hi,

Magic Bullets are actually already available in the UK. Magic bullets are basically a brand name for Bisacodyl suppositories.

Please see info below:

From Medicinenet

GENERIC NAME: BISACODYL - RECTAL SUPPOSITORY (biss-ACK-oh-dill)

BRAND NAME(S): Dulcolax, Fleet Bisacodyl, Magic Bullet

Medication Uses | How To Use | Side Effects | Precautions | Drug Interactions | Overdose | Notes | Missed Dose | Storage

USES: This medication is a stimulant laxative. It acts by irritating the digestive tract and stimulates intestinal activity. It is used to treat constipation or to clean out the intestinal tract before bowel examinations or bowel surgery.

HOW TO USE: To use the suppository, unwrap it and moisten it slightly in lukewarm water. Lie on your left side with the right knee slightly bent. Insert the suppository into the rectum with your finger. If possible, avoid a bowel movement for 10 to 15 minutes to allow the medication to work.

SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause stomach ache, cramping, weakness, sweating, irritation of the rectal area, diarrhea, or dizziness. Notify your doctor if you experience: chest pain, fainting, rectal bleeding, lack of bowel movements. Frequent use of laxatives can cause dehydration and loss of essential nutrients. Symptoms include muscle cramps, muscle weakness or dizziness. Maintain an adequate fluid intake while using this medication. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Do not use bisacodyl without consulting your doctor if you have: severe nausea, vomiting, gastritis, other stomach or intestinal problems, recent abdominal surgery, rectal bleeding, vitamin/mineral deficiencies, appendicitis, allergy to bisacodyl. If the patient is under 6 years of age, consult child's doctor before using this medication. Before using bisacodyl, tell your doctor if you are pregnant. It is not known if bisacodyl passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor if you are breast-feeding.

ALSO, please see the following from the BNF ( british National Formulary) BNF

BISACODYL
Indications see under Dose
Cautions see notes above; pregnancy
Contra-indications see notes above, acute surgical abdominal conditions, acute inflammatory bowel disease, severe dehydration
Side-effects see notes above; tablets, griping; suppositories, local irritation
Dose
constipation, by mouth, 5–10 mg at night; child (but see section 1.6) 4–10 years (on medical advice only) 5 mg at night, over 10 years, adult dose
By rectum in suppositories, 10 mg in the morning; child (but see section 1.6) under 10 years (on medical advice only) 5 mg, over 10 years, adult dose
Before radiological procedures and surgery, by mouth, 10–20 mg the night before procedure and by rectum in suppositories, 10 mg the following morning; child 4–10 years by mouth, 5 mg the night before procedure and by rectum in suppositories, 5 mg the following morning; over 10 years, adult dose
Note tablets act in 10–12 hours; suppositories act in 20–60 minutes

HTH

Take care,

K

PS, as far as a am aware although Bisacodyl is available orally over the counter, the suppository form is usually a Prescription only ( a RN at the drs can prescribe). Pharmacies CAN sell the suppositories at their discretion.

Thanks for the detailed reply however 'Magic Bullet Suppositories™' are water soluble base (Polyethyl Glycol) compared to other bisacodyls (Dulcolax, Theravac/Enemeez, and Fleets) that use hydrogenated vegetable oil as a base.

There's quite a lot of info about them on the forum.

Hi Doppleganger,

Thanks for pointing that out! I haven't used "Magic Bullets™" before, either Personally or as a RN. We tended to use Picolax ( orally pre procedures for clean outs) or Micralax enemas to administer to Patients, if Glycerine suppositories were unsuccessful, or it was that individual's Bowel routine etc. i linked to the BNF so that you could peruse all the methods used here in the UK. ( if you can not see the whole site, I am happy to copy and paste for you in a PM etc).

Some Online Pharmacies do reportedly sell Ducolax, but not sure if this will be the regular one or the polyethyl Glycol based.

Mmmmm, have you tried Microlax enemas? They are small and contain Sodium citrate 450 mg with glycerol, sorbitol and an anionic surfactant. ( Not the same but has the glycerol base obviously, but another option to many).

Or
BNF

Klean-Prep®(Norgine)
Oral powder , macrogol ‘3350' (polyethylene glycol ‘3350') 59 g, anhydrous sodium sulphate 5.685 g, sodium bicarbonate 1.685 g, sodium chloride 1.465 g, potassium chloride 743 mg/sachet, net price 4 sachets = £8.56. Label: 10, patient information leaflet, 13, counselling

Be aware though that this is pretty aggressive and typically cleans everything else, so would need to be aware of AD and anal blistering has been reported due to these preparations. However, this is taken by mouth and as such has its own drawbacks and advantages..

Do you get Magic Bullets ™ in Sweden? ( from your dr etc?)

I am sure others with info will be able to respond with further info. Did the links which you found here at Apparelyzed help?

Take care,

K

A company called Concepts in Confidence are the designers of the Magic Bullet. SportAid are I think best known here for supplying them, they are not the cheapest, but they do ship internationally.

Do have a look through the website before you checkout, as tyres castor's etc are half the price of Europe/UK. We order around $1000 worth of goods a year from them on accessories with our basketball team and a few friends. My last chair was got from them, still using the wheelchair voucher ( if anyone wants details on that please ask!!!).

I used the MB's for 6 years previous to a year ago. They were the best Sup' I've ever used. I have a few left in the box if anyone wants them to try first.

I realize this topic is almost two months old but I just came across it today. There is a new company which supposedly has the cheapest prices on the net for the magic bullet and they do ship to the UK. One of the partners lives in the UK. I don't use them and haven't compared prices, but visit their website and check for yourself:

They are Bisacodyl are they.
There was me thinking I was missing out on the much vaunted magic bullet.
I have started using these recently and it has been a really reliable result.
Do they start to tail off in their effectiveness like other suppositories have in the past for me after a couple years?

Cheers curbyi
