Hey all !!

I currently take Lyrica (200mg 3x's/day) for neuro pain. What affect does alcohol have on the drug and can I have a few drinks while on this medication? Any thoughts are appreciated. :help: :toast:

dont know how everyone else is that takes baclofen but i took a shot of vodka an my blood pressure went up so fast my face a chest truned red an i got hot as hell. I think i figured it out tho. It must have something to do with the proof. i can drink beer no problem since the proof is so low but anything above the proof of beer will send up my blood pressure. Ask your Dr but if you dont feel like doing that, then just try a little alcohol first an see what your body does.

Hi,

Taking Lyrica with alcohol can lead to drowsiness, tiredness, loss of concentration, dizziness and basically exaggeration of the affects of alcohol and side effects of Lyrica.

If you want to drink, try not to do so just after taking your medication, instead, drinking after several hours of it being in your system is better. No dr is going to say that its completely ok to drink and take medications, they fear retribution, but that is what they advice is the best way to drink alcohol. Also, try to drink as little as possible etc..

Hope this helps.

Take care,

K

I did think of calling the Dr or Pharmacy, however, I knew their answer prior to calling. I, in this case, thought I'd turn to this site as it provides great info and I trust the experiences of people with sim injuries. I don't drink often, maybe once a month, and it's usually 1-2 drinks (beer, Bailey's). I was only concerned that the Lyrica combined with the alcohol would adversely affect my kidneys, as I often worry about them and their functioning. Thanks again for the info and I'd love to hear more thoughts.

I'm on a pretty low dose (150mg twice daily) and I've had no side effects. I've gotten smashed within hours of taking my meds - no side effects. I switched from Gabapentine (sp) to Lyrica about 6 months ago and I now do what I want when I want with no neuro noticeable pain. Like Kev-O said, try a little alcohol to see what your body does (then it's Margarita Madness :D ).

I'm glad someone raised this question... I take low dose of Lyrica 75mg twice a day and I also take 2-3 5mg tabs of Vicodin a day. I am really concerned about the effects of taking both of those and then drinking, especially with all the recent press on mixing drugs. I guess there is no easy answer, although if there is a weekend where I do a lot of heavy drinking, I tend to skip the Lyrica and just take the Vicodin.
