My doctor put me on Fosamax for osteoporosis several months ago. It's the one you take only once a week. I had a DEXA scan for the first time last April and it showed pretty bad osteoporosis in the hips, the spine was just on the borderline of normal. I don't know if if works because I have not had another scan yet. I haven't experienced any side effects at all. You're supposed to take it with water and not eat for a few hours afterward. Doctor also wants me to take calcium supplements. I don't like dairy products at all - well except for chocolate ice cream and I hardly ever eat it.

Hi hanguk I don't do good on calcium supplements so I eat lots of greens, collards, dandelion greens kale etc. The body only absorbs a small part of the calcium pill under 10% so 3X 500 mg would only be 150 mg or less. The calcium in vegetables are easier for the body to absorb so it is possible to get the calcium from food. There are calcium fortafied foods like orange juice. I was told that the radiation is really high for the bone density scan I had one a year ago and my doc wants me to have another one still thinking on that. Thanks for the info............

I'd like to have another one to see if the medicine is doing anything. I like greens and orange juice. I always buy calcium fortified orange juice. But I have to buy extra because my son loves orange juice and drinks it all up. I think fish with small bones in them are good for calcium. The calcium pills don't bother me. They are so big though..
