Hi, I am new to this whole scene, I just recently started dating a beautiful woman with SCI I believe she is a T-10 if that sounds right...
Anyway I was with her yesterday, and she mentioned something about feeling her metal, and or cage in her back... I don't know what she is talking about because I did not feel anything, but she said she is kind of bothered by it, so I didn't want to press anything or ask any questions to make her feel uncomfortable.
My question is this; does anyone have an idea of what she may be talking about? I just want to understand her, and what she goes through.
Any help will be greatly appreciated...

Hi KVH,
Yes t-10 is a real term, basically its the level at which her spinal cord is damaged, take a look,

as you can see t-10 is about waiste level or slightly above, her feeling below will depend if her injury is complete (no feeling below) or incomplete (some feeling below).
And about the metal cage in her back, that will have been put there support the bonework in her back, i could have had it, but my spinal doctor prefered me to stay on bed rest so that my bones healed naturally, if i did have it, i wouldn't have had to stay in bed rest for so long
hope this helps

Hi KVH...
Some people can feel their hardware, others may not. I can feel mine too, but over time I've become desensitized to it. If I think about it, I can feel it, but otherwise I'm only aware of it if something is against it. I can feel it externally when I bathe my back as well.
I'm mostly feeling the screws they used, and not the titanium rods, but I had Herrington rods in '68, and they were very evident externally, although I didn't actually 'feel' them inside of me when going about my day.
I'm glad you came here to ask questions. You've found the right place, and I hope you'll feel free to ask any other questions that might come up along the way.
