Hay Everybody!

Im Kati. Since i was in 5th grade i have wanted 2 be a nuerologist, and Specialized in Spinal cord injuries. I have done SOOO much research, But Nothing WAs better than this WEbsite!
Recently ive started rethinking my future,,, Dont get me wrong, I would to LOVE 2 Go ahead with my Dream..But i RELE dont want to Go 2 School for TEN more years..
SO do any of yall have any Suggestions??
Anything would Be helpful..

Hi Kati,

If you are really interested in Neurology, then you could still work with in that remit. It really depends upon how much studying you wish to do, what you are doing now and what you feel about pay etc.

Working as an

*Occupational Therapist or a Physiotherapist is still a 3-4 year course to qualify and then you have other courses to pursue in order to specialise.

*RN is 4 years and then add on top of that several years to specialise.

*an OT/PT assistant, or perhaps an Art Therapist, Music Therapist,

*Speech therapist (language Pathologist) all of whom can work in the remit of Neurology.

*Not to mention the jobs in Laboratories as a Scientist or as a technician)

*Medical secretaries (or PAs) also work with in this field in the typing and processing of reports etc.

*Also jobs such as Prosthesis Technicians etc, who make/mould braces and 'false' limbs.

Hi kati, if you like neurology check out acupuncture and chiropractics. Both are way less than 10 years. Good luck

I'm in the same boat as you. I wanted to be a neurosurgeon and during high school I actually interned for one and sat in the operating room during surgeries.

The number of years of school deterred me... the level of commitment that not only surgeons but all physicians have to put in for their work.

Since my injury, I decided to go into pharmacy instead and do research toward spinal cord injuries.

Hi!~ actually since i was still 8 i have always been wondering why some people must use wheelchairs.....but not soon i found out why and from that day onwards i did a lot of research but found nothing much actually....
i have always been wanting to be a neurologist in my future when i grow up...
but now i think i wont be able to do it anymore after occuring the injury myself. But if you want to do a lot of research on SCI you could read through the whole forum. most likely you would find a lot of things that you dont know about SCI. Enjoy your journey researching this forum!

Hey Girl--if you think you have the grades and the committment to medicine I would enourage you to follow your dream--if you really want this make the time you will be happy you did 20-30 years from now. If you don't you'll always regret not getting you medical degree... good luck

If the idea of additional school time deters you instead of exciting you,,,,,the odds are you wouldn't make it through anyway.

Why waste the your ( or your parent's) money?

Well, I personally don't think the thousands of medical students are 'excited' about spending their life to mid 30s stuck in a classroom. I think it's just a means to a much meaningful end.

It is true the cost of med school is nothing to joke about but if it's what it takes to help you learn what you want to do in life...who knows...maybe it's not all a waste?
