Hi I am a final year engineering student at the university of canterbury in new zealand. We have a design project that requires us to design a device to help someone with C5/6 Quadriplegia get out of their wheel chair and into their bed or off the floor and into thier wheelchair.

Both options require that the apparatus to be fully acitivated without the help of others. And the one for getting the person from the floor into the chair must work for the person no matter what their orientation on the floor.

If you know of any devices that currently do this, please show me where they are.

If you have any suggestions or special considerations i may need to keep in mind, please let me know

any help you can give will be greatly appreciated

thanks

seriously now,

Do you have anymore details on the requirements or is this the remit? I ask as what one c5/c6 can do is not what every c5/c6 can do,....So that is the first thing to point out...

Then if there is reduced/no finger control, you need to look into ways/equipment which doesn't require it.. etc

IS it an either or thing?--so ~Either help get someone off the floor OR off/into bed? as both would perhaps be ambitious..

Thanks for the replies,

That was pretty much our design brief, the extent of disability is only scoped at C5/6, i think further refinement, ie including or excluding those with no finger movement, would be our call.

No it is both get the person from the floor and into the bed.

cheers

hi there
well buttons are problematic with quads. they have to be big and to stick out if you use a remote
control. even better is a voice control.
at my house i use a lifter which runs on rails attached to the ceiling. but i can't operate it myself.
i need help.
