Hi all! I'm new here. I'm married to a C6/7 quad. Just joined to see how others deal and do daily tasks.

We have been married for almost 4 years and on our 1 year anniversary we decided to have a pool party... led to months in the hospital after he dove in the pool and broke his neck. Long story short we are still together and very happy. Thought maybe it would be nice to talk to others who have the same problems that we do... simply because as much as we try to talk to friends/family they just don't understand.

So hello and I can't wait to talk to some of you!

Hello Emmy,

Good to meet you, although like the others have said, its sucks that it has to be under these circumstances. I hope that it is ok to answer as I am the "disabled" one in our house ( although I sometimes wonder! lol, sorry joke! - I have a warped sense of humour!) Anyway, my 'story' can be found on this site HERE!, but briefly ( lol), I am married too, we have been together for over 12 years and have 2 beautiful kiddies together- (5 and under). I am a chair user for around about 3 years - due to paralysis and also b/c I have severe dislocating Connective tissue Disorder (means I dislocate multiple joints, multiple times daily - which although were present before, were not every day..now they are as a result of hormonal influence, an accident and the fact that it usually progresses due to the trauma of the proceeding dislocations etc etc.- has gotten worse over last few years). I also have the other stuff which goes with all of this ( pain, POTS, Autonomic dysfunction -like AD etc). I trained and worked as an RN, specialising in Cardiology. unfortunately though, I have had to 'retire' not too long ago due to the paralysis in part but mainly due to the other stuff - Now I keep busy with the kids. I am a Governor at the school/on the PTA and am kept busy with the wee ones. Oh and I bug everyone here :bye:

I hope to see more of your posts and that you feel right at home here!

Take care,

K

Hi Emmy, very nice to meet you. Sorry that it was like this. I am the disabled one in my household. I found this site quite by accident and have been hooked ever since.

The people on this site are awesome, friendly, and very informative.

It took me awhile to post my first question as i learned a ton by reading other threads.

So, WELCOME, hope to read more from you later.

Hey there Emmy-

What a GORGEOUS family you all are!!
As you already know, I think you & I have alot in common...not sure if I told you this, but Jon was also injured in a diving accident (though in a shallow lake not a pool) in 2003.
All my best to you and yours!

:nopity:

Hello Cate and Motor,

Thanks for the reassurance. All I can say is that i feel I was meant to be a RN inspite and despite the issues I already had, so I find it cathartic and therapeutic to try and give my perspective and suggestions here. Just like you guys do

Cate - in answer to your questions, I don't research (other than keeping a breast of things for my own interest) and many of the posts I give, the links there are ones I have already...Or else I do a little search of Journals etc.
I take the lil ones to school/nursery and so if I pop on in the day I do so after that, in between picking my youngest up late morning. I also have a laptop and so whilst reading/playing with the kids I can pop online now and again. They are at an age where they play a lot together (5 and under, 18 months apart). Mainly though, I am online at night and the early hours, when hubby and kiddies are asleep, and when hubby has to work... because I don't sleep very much at all. I suppose I just like to/have to keep my mind active, it helps distract a little from the pain and keep me from going mad.. Of course I have the PTA/Governors and bits and bobs I do here and there to keep me mentally active too..and getting in and out of the car a billion times (it feels lol) keeps me physically..lol..

Motor, we are all in this together and our experiences are just as beneficial to hear, if not more beneficial than any medical or Nursing 'info', That is the beauty of this site, everyone has a different 'take' on similar situations and having 'walked in those shoes' can help those still there...
Thanks for the compliment, I guess nursing is all I know though...LOL..

Emmy I too looked at the picture in your profile, and I agree it is beautiful! :) Welcome again..

Take care,

K

Thanks so much! My husband has looked online, but he's not into computers. He has a myspace full of comments- he signs up for things and never does anything else! He stays busy- I don't know how he does it! Thanks for the welcome!!

Hi! I agree, we live in a small town and really only know one other couple here in our situation... it's great to see that we aren't alone!! This site is great, I've been reading all day! I'm home alone while my hubby is out at bass pro shops all day!

Thank you! We only looked that good because we were at a wedding, usually we are in sweats and tee shirts! I shared your info with Ben and he said we can start saving and look into it more when we get the house built. (So there is hope!)

That is great that you have children! I can't wait to have another one!! You sound like you know your stuff, you might get tired of me asking questions! It's been almost 3 years since my husbands accident, but I'm still learning! I am working again, so I don't get to go to therapy as much and I seem to be missing out on so much! I'll be in contact!! Thank You So much!!

Emmy,
As if 3-31-08 it will be one year that my wife of 11 years became a t-10/t-11 (car wreck).
I do not post very often but the information that other people have posted has been more than amazing and helpful during this past year, and your right, it does feel good to hear from other people that have the same problems.

Hope all works out well with you and your husband. Y'all must have a great relationship.

Hi Emmy,

Thx for joining. I think you found a great place to ask questions or offer solutions to others. I am relatively new here too. Hope to hear from you around the forum.
