My husband and I are in the first stages of building a house- we have a lot and are looking for a house plan. We have looked on the net forever and just can't seem to find anything that shows what we want. Any tips for roll in showers, kitchens, anything that seems to work for anyone please let me know. This will be where we are for the rest of our life.... so we want to make sure we do it right!!! Thank you ALL!

I know my situation is a slightly different as I'm T12, but heres my house. Sorry I haven't ironed the duvet!!! All my friends have commented on that! Our Bathroom contains a shower I cant use, we put it in to sell the house, the one thing is theres space. Space around everything. All the rooms are large, we have no single rooms, the plans of the house are on the website too obviously not complete plans.. just floor space. Our kitchen is tiered so I could have normal built in appliances, as it goes round it drops by 4 inches each time to the lowest area being my stove. this was a nice way of getting a kitchen I could use without it looking *different*. We did gut the house completely, bedroom 3 was infact the kitchen with a back door going onto the drive! it was a wreck. The dining area and the main bedroom on the back of the house is an extension. If you would like anymore photos let me know :)

Thanks for the plans. Your home is beautiful! Our house now is so small and we will spend so much if we remodel. Since my husbands family farm is being sold off we now have land to build on. I'm really excited, but also scared that we will move in and then decide we like something else.

Thanks a bunch!

Without knowing a lot about your situation,,,children, age, partying needs, money supply,,,I'll keep my suggestions short and basic.

General: open floorplan,,,ie.. great room as apposed to separate living/dining rooms,,,,wider halls ,,,wider doors.

bathroom: roll in shower,, at least four by five,,, lower counter at sink with no cabinets under sink,,,if you decide to forego the bathtub, use the same space to install a padded changing bench. If you sell, a tub can be installed if needed.

kitchen: like the bathroom, the counter at the sink should be lower and with no cabinets below. The dishwasher should be adjacent to allow for easy loading.

A covered porch or patio,,with a view of something (even the street) is something I wish I had, but doesn't work with this house.

I do have a roll-in closet that I don't think I could do without.

All cabinet companies have cabinet shelves that slide out like drawers, for easier access.

Hope this helps.

Here's the floor plan of my house in Sweden. It has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathroom (one is on-suite wetroom), large family kitchen and living room:

I kept it everything as open plan as possible and the kitchen is as normal as possible as I had the worktops lowered in the utility room for me.

The on-suite roll-in wetroom has walls and floor cover with Linoleum (vinyl) much cheaper and easier to clean then tiles.

All the doors are 32" wide and the floors are oak.

Hope thats of some help to you.

Hi,

You might get a few ideas for an accessible kitchen from this UK website.

I hope you will excuse my presumption,, but would you consider reversing the bedroom/living room setup?

Most people seem happier if the bedrooms are farther from the main entry and the dining/living room would be handier to the kitchen if place in the front.

With that arrangement the wall between the kitchen and dining/living area could be replaced with an island, negating the need for the additional dining area in the kitchen.

Additionally, most would be less appreciative of a master suite opening to kitchen area.

Sorry if I offended.
