I just came back from a 3 day much needed break in San Sebastián which is in the beautiful Basque Region of Spain. What really impressed me - even though I was not with my man - but because I notice these things now - was how accessible the city was.

I have never ever seen that many people in chairs (of all kinds) traversing a city even after having been to Sydney, where I thought I saw a lot. There are ramps and accessible busses and trains and toilets everywhere. Wheelchair parking spots are actually NOT hogged by any random in a big fat car. Entrances to shops and restaurants are ramped and most private apartment buildings have ramps and chair lifts. I was really impressed (because this is Spain, and after what I have seen in Madrid in the last 3 years I had pretty much lost hope with progress in these terms) and sad at the same time for not being with Jeremy.

There are really impressive walks that can be done right around the foreshore and lovely museums and beachfront restaurants that are all perfect to spend lovely sunny Spanish afternoons eating pintxos and drinking cider or lovely Spainsh reds.... The tourist office is very accessible and they are really helpful and knowledgable.

I would recommend giving it a try!

Don't try to be perfect; just be an excellent example of being human
