The counter in our main ensuite bathroom (the accessible one)is going to changed. The main reason is the sink is too far from the counter to wash my own hair. We are taking out the small drawers on the right hand side and opening up that side. Moving the sink over to the right. I am looking for ideas on type of sink and hardware. Nothing to gimper looking. Other suggestions also appreciated. Thanks Bruce

I'd make sure the kind isn't too deep - that way you can get your knees under it comfortably. Also, for the faucet, make sure you find on that has one lever as opposed to different hot and cold knobs - those are a bit hard to turn. Hubby & I have been through two remodels so we know what works and what doesn't. Are you going to lower the counter height at all? All of our counters in our bathroom are 33" high.

When I first got injured I realised that my old home would not work for my new condition in a wheelchair. We (wife and I) looked at modifying an existing home. In the end we realised that it would take more money and ultimately still have a house with limitations so we would have to build from scratch. Thankfully I have some drafting skills (did it for work) and a bit of construction experience, so out came the laptop (gift from friends because of my new condition) and I started to design a house that would work for a Para and yet be estetically pleasing without busting any budget. I really hate the looks of some handicap houses. Sorry to say but in this era even a special needs house should be as acceptable to a person in a wheelchair as to a normal person.
Every house built from now on should be capable of housing a senior citizen who may have mobility issues. Why build a house and then have to move out of it when the knees start to cramp and getting into a bath tub becomes a challenge.
Here is a sink that should meet your needs. If you install it correctly you should be able to wash your hair in the sink and not do any modifications to your bathroom other than the counter. All the under sink plumbing is at the back of the sink so you will not hit your knees as you wheel under the sink. Also, as the sink has a front lip on it, the sink extends out from the counter top a bit so there should be no issues to a wheelchair user.
There is a reasonable answer to most home construction issues these days you just need to know where to look. If you want, I will send you some pictures of the installs I have done. I can think of one that is almost exactly as you have your bathroom setup. You should be able to get away with minimal changes
