hey guys. ever since my injury my feet have been EXTREMELY sensitive. they are not only numb but anything touching them is like nails on a chalk board...just really irritating. because of this, i ALWAYS wear socks.

is it possible to desensitize my feet? for example, if i start to spend time without shoes or socks on....will the annoying feeling eventually start to fade or go away?

hope you guys can help

The inside of my ankles are the same. Mine have been like it since my accident too over a year abo. when it started off it hurt to put socks on etc. I have found that although it doesn't seem to get any less, you tend to get used to it more.
What helped me was to every day rub and feel them, and you get used to the feeling and it annoys me less now.
Hope that helps :wheelchair:

My PT told me the same thing, to rub the area starting with a soft cloth and work your way up to a towel or something not quite as soft. Apparently, the more you stimulate the area, the less sensitive it becomes.

my pain also was in my feet and over 6 yrs has moved up into my legs and butt. nothing ive tried has worked. at first it was so bad i stayed in bed with my feet proped up to ease the pain. then i found a nurse that helped me for awhile over the phone by me setting up with a compound Medicine. at first it helped me alot but gradually wore off. and now the pain is getting worse again at least it helped for awhile. thats why ive been looking on here for ideas too the fallowing is her info. if she is still there it was 2004 when i talked with her

I've been having trouble with extreme sensitively in the lower body only in the past year and I'm going on 14 years post injury so I guess anything is possible with a spinal cord injury.
