I will be traveling in Germany in August and I am looking to find a vehicle that has hand controls. It doesn't matter whether it's a car or van but I am having no luck with the major rental companies. I do have a person in Germany looking around for me. I would be flying into Frankfurt.

Thanks
Dave

Not sure quite how hard you tried but hertz advertise as having hand controls available at frankfurt airport.

From their general info bit -

Quote

At most U.S. and Canadian locations, cars equipped with hand controls are available at no extra charge. Reservations for cars equipped with hand controls can be automatically confirmed with as little as 8 hours notice at major airport locations, and as little as 24 hours notice at other major locations.*

One-way rentals of hand-control cars are permitted without any extra cost for the special equipment. However, certain restrictions and intercity fees do apply to all one-way rentals. Please check for details at time of reservation.

This service is available at most U.S. and Canada locations, and major gateways in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, and Spain, for rentals of 24 hours or more. This service is also available at other European locations for rentals of five days or more. Hand controls are also available at select countries in Latin America, Caribbean, and Asia-Pacific. Please visit "Qualifications and Requirements" for availability for your selected destination. Advanced reservation requirements vary by location.

* While Hertz is able to provide hand controls on a wide variety of its rental cars, it cannot provide them on each model. Also, while Hertz makes every effort to provide its physically challenged customers with a two or four door car, Hertz cannot confirm a particular make or model.

I always take my set of lynx controls when I travel, they are a bit floppy to drive with but for temporary use, they're fine.
