Hello Everyone,

My name is Gaina, I'm 35 and I have Spina Bifida (I think my level is T-12, according to the category I was once put in at a sports event but don't quote me! :yikes: ).

I first saw this site when I started my search for a new seating system for my wheelchair as my current one just doesn't give me the trunk or lumbar support I need. Having done some further research I have realised that what I actually need is a whole new wheelchair, as this one I got seven years ago on the 'voucher system' is totally clapped-out. I am just waiting for a call back from my local Wheelchair Assessment Centre for an appointment.

Anyway, I decided to join and have a chat with people as I'm looking for new ways to exercise and find out what kinds of equipment are available for me.

I live in the UK and am currently studying a Foundation Degree in Art and Design. This is a two-year course and I plan to take the third year, and make it up to a BA Honours degree as soon as I get the opportunity

I enjoy art, photography, music (particularly heavy metal) and gardening in the Summer. I also love animals and share my home with a part-Maine Coon Cat called Billy.

Well, that's about all I have to tell you at the moment. I look forward to getting to know people :)
Have a nice weekend!

Hey there, You sound like me. I love to do all those things except not a fan of heavy metal. Since i know a little about you i will let you know a little about me. I am also new to this site. It is a wonderful place. These folks here do wonders.

I am a 22 Year old. Going to college, working as a photographer and taking care of my wonderful boyfriend. We r from North America. He just turned 21 in feb. that makes things harder cuz he's very stubburn, he was like this before his accident! He fell from a silo 5 months ago. Things were very hard the first couple months, especially Financially, But seem to be getting better slowly.

All these's T's and C's confuse me. I seen that you are a T-12 does that mean you guys have the same disablities? He is a T-11. If you don't want to respond to this that is ok. I'm just trying to understand. Gotta go for now hope we can start talking!
Live it up!

Hello Photo_Angel :yikes:

The T's and C's refer to the sections of the spine - T is the thoracic area and C is the cervical area. The vertibrea within that area are numbered, which is where you get c1, c2, etc. from.

Have a look at THIS to see what I mean.

Stubbornness can be good when you're dealing with something like this, as long as he's wise enough to balance it out by accepting when needs assistance (that's a really hard one to learn and it's not restricted to people who become disabled due to accidents, trust me! :) ).

Hello Richie :)

Thank you for the welcome, it's nice to meet you.

I did check out your myspace and I love your trike! And maturity is highly over-rated. I refuse to act my age unless I absolutely have to .

Hi Gaina,

Welcome to the site. I too am in the UK. So I don't bore you, my 'story' can be found on this site by clicking HERE. In a nutshell, I am paralysed and it is in part due to the Connective tissue disorder which I have. I was unaware of the disorder as even though I dislocated frequently, I was a gymnast and Ballerina so it was out down to this. I didn't want to spoil my Nursing career so I 'hid' a lot of my issues. Unfortunately, due to hormones related to pregnancy and b/c each dislocation causes trauma and loosening, I now dislocate many jonts, many times daily (with associated POTS, AD, Pain) so I try to share my experiences... Anyway, enough about that aspect of me...

With re to moosic, suffice to say that I too enjoy music and I suppose I am a "metal'r", I have been called a Goth before now too, but I never called myself one, I am just me! I actually have an eclectic taste. I too went to University, I trained, qualified and worked as a Registered Senior Nurse, specialising in Cardiology. Since chair-dumping-disability, I have had to 'retire'. I tend to interfere and post here, adding my penny's worth! Seriously, though there are some great people here -informative and supportive
Other than the above, I am married to some bloke :) and we have 2 beautiful children (5 and under) and a dog who is seven.

Great to meet you and I hope that you enjoy visiting and that we get to know you more!

Take care,

K

Thanks for all the warm welcomes :), I'm already finding the people on this forum to be more positive and the conversations more constructive than some of the other forums I have been a member of :).
