I pride myself on being a scientific, free-thinking individual who promotes and defends reason in all areas of human endeavour but I'm getting a little tired of being physically uncomfortable and I'm starting to investigate some 'unconventional' options. Has anyone ever tried hypnosis or accupuncture for pain management? Results???

Hi, I tried acupuncture and it worked for me. It takes more than one treatment so give it time. If you try it when you're on the table close your eyes and visualize the part of your body that is being treated and think of what you want to happen there. See ya

Did the needles hurt? I'm so queazie about needles, I'm afraid I might faint. Does it really work or do you need to 'visualize' in order to get a placebo effect. I'm trying meditation right now, as in 'talking to my body'. I start out ok when I'm drifting off to sleep but forget it once I wake up in the middle of the night tossing and turning and writhing in pain...I guess I'm not very good at staying focused. hehe. I had to give myself my own needle when I was in the rehab hospital and I would just do it really quick while lying in bed so I wouldn't pass out.

Ah Grass hopper  I have a buddy thats been an Acupuncturist for years and he's the one that has me do it. When he is putting the needles in place ( they only go in a little way in the skin mostly they don't "hurt") he asks me how I'm feeling and what I'm experiencing and adjusts the needles. The mind is very powerful and can do amazing things so I think acupuncture and visualization compliment each other. You're laying down so if you pass out no biggy and another thing about closing your eyes is you wont know when the needle goes in because and the place where the needle goes is rubbed with an alcohol swab first. As long as it works that's all that matters.

Hello City Girl~ I also tried acupuncture & I agree with longhaul...only I am one of the few that it didn't for & it was my acupuncturist who stopped the treatment telling me if it didn't work the first time; it won't work for me at all & I also had cotizone shots with no relief. So; I'm only being treated with medication.

my son did the accupuncture and i really think this works...we have tried alot of un-traditional methods of treatment...i am not sure what has worked and what has not...but we tried just about everything you can imagine..., from acupuncture to young living oils, we then joined a health club, did alot of vitamins and nutrients through shaklee, (too the point of going broke do to the fact that most everything we did was NOT covered by ins.)and if course alot of positive thoughts and LOTS of praying ...give it a try, WHY NOT? and let us know how it turns out.
