I just started using a wheel chair at work and had quite a surprise yesterday. I rolled up to the elevator call button and got quite a poke when I made contact.
Then I got nailed again when I got on the elevator.
I didn’t have any trouble with at any other time; just this once. The only difference that I’m aware of is that the floor where this happened is granite, while everywhere else it’s carpet. Any ideas as to why and what to do to prevent it? They didn’t cover this in rehab.
'Cause that's how I roll!

Hi,
If it's any help to you, there is a page on the Apparelyzed main site (i.e. not in the forums) all about wheelchairs and static electricity, it can be found here - http://www.apparelyz...ctricshock.html

I allways touch the nearest person first...hey presto...no shock!!
That doesn't always work though, as I always have to earth myself or touch my wife's hand before kissing her if I'm in my wheelchair, otherwise I give her an electric shock on the lips!
My daughter knows better, she always touches my hand before kissing me goodbye.
I changed my tyres from slick Primo types, to Marathon Plus, deep tread types, and this has helped.
Regards
Simon.
