Hi all,
I had an appointment with my Urologist yesterday who strongly suggests that I have a Cystoplasty opperation, due to my "Angry" bladder ( His term not mine). I have a very small irregular shaped bladder with a sphincter that goes into spasm preventing my urine being voided. This causes high pressures inside my bladder and the potential for a back flow in to my kidneys.
At present my kidney scans show that they haven't been effected by my "Angry" bladder.
I have had an in depth consultation with a urologist nurse about this procedure and it's benefits. The thought of being dry and not having any difficulties with my kidneys in the future is an obvious draw for me.
The only worry that I have is of returning to a similar state I was in at the acute phase of my injury with all the various lines going in and out of my body i.e naso-gastric tube (eeek!).
Is there anyone who has had this procedure who can allay my fears about the post operative recovery?
Thanks
Sean

Hey there
I am ini very similar situation as yourself, and have been recommended for this surgery aswell...
My 'Dream' scneario with my bladder would be one where I wouldnt have to worry about leaking ever as long as I empty it and can get around 500ml of liquid...
I am involved with a Spinal Injury organisation so have friends whi have had this surgery. The general consensus is that it is frankly excellent and has caused any bladder anxietys to disapear. One person calls it the 'Tesco carrier bag bladder' and they they have got up to 2 litres of urine out of it before! Im not sure if its safe to allow it to get to 2 litres, but it does make me feel that this is more for me - I am sick of using a Conveen sheath thing and reckon its affecting my quality of life as I feel more worried about just going out etc cause I might get wet.
I havent mentioned the complications and risks as I do not kow them, hopefully someone else can give some input there - I will be giving the docter an interrogation on the risks though before this goes ahead
Happy weeing
