Hi Guys,

I am getting pain in my right leg hip, which seems to ease when I shift position on my chair or take ibuprofen but is sometimes worse when the weather is damp/cold and sometimes not there at all for a few glorious days regardless of the weather!

How can I tell if this is muscular or neuropathic. Just to remind you I have spina bifida (T-12)

If it gets better when you move and ibuprofen works then the chances are it's muscular. What sort of pain is it? If it's a stabbing or burning pain that may be neuropathic but probably won't go away with ibuprofen. Mine never quite goes away ever!

Thanks for the reply :muahaha:. I just took one of my 'heavy duty' painkillers (supermarket variety but strong - you only take two in the morning and two before bed) and ALL of my muscles have relaxed so I'm thinking it's more likely to be muscular too.

The pain ranges from a dull ache to feeling like something is splitting my bones. Interesting thing is if I use the little muscle power I have in my lower back and stomach to 'push my coccyx forwards' it turns into a very irritating itch, like when a cut is healing (or you know that itch you get when you've had surgery that you can't scratch because of the plaster?) and the pain goes off - when relax, the pain comes back. Odd.

Sounds alot like my neuro pain. Right hip only, comes & goes(usually in pulses of three or four) but sometimes constantly pulsing in the background, bad for me on day when the barometric pressure is dramatically changing... often a storm front, Usually worse in the evening. When a bad one hits I usually lift up (like a weight shift) and rotate my his around and find the spot that is better until the pulses pass. For me pills dont help it enough to justify being in the zone & taking them daily (only really high doses did anything...and I tried many), also it was only after quitting taking them that i was able to move around and relieve any pain.

Have you had any H.O. in that hip?

H.O? What's that? The fact I don't know what you mean probably means the answer is 'no'! haha.

Actually it's pretty good today, the weather is dry and cold.

It's where calcium deposits collect in the joints... I think it made my pain worse but who knows. Mines pretty much there everyday...though there are definite good & bad days.

Ah, thanks for the explanation. :)

I just looked in the Acronyms section and see it's 'Heterotopic Ossification'. Sounds like I don't want it either!

Last night I hardly got any sleep and despite taking a tablet this morning, the pain would NOT go away so I lay on the floor, promised my mother I wouldn't sue her and ask her to rub my lower back until she heard the 'wrinkles' coming out. :D

Sheer bliss ensued, so I think we can say the the origin of this particular pain 99% certainly muscular. :D

I swear, I better get that new wheelchair pretty darn quick!!
