hi everyone. :badmood:

im just wondering about the costs involved in converting a vehicle for a friend of mine, i've found surprisingly little straight info anywhere else but i'd like to hear your experiences.

it would need hand controls, not sure what exactlyhe would want yet but would be good to have some info for him, the lack of his own transport is proving a problem at the moment. thanks all.xxx

A lot depends on his capabilities. If he can transfer into the driver's seat, he will also be able to pull his chair in, too. That would mean that simply having hand controls installed would do.

If not, modifications would depend on the type of vehicle he chooses to drive.

I had a Jeep Liberty before my injury and had hand controls installed,,,,,that worked well for me, but, when I had the opportunity to purchase a full sized van already equiped with a Braun lift and a Rycon seat,, I took advantage of it.

I have found that I use the van most of the time, simply because of the convenience.

You will also find it more difficult to get used Vehicles structurally modified. Liability insurance prices push small guys out of the picture.

Hi have you been informed about the motability scheme here in the uk? i have brand new car already fitted with hand controls they take the motability component from your DLA allowance you keep the car for 3 years then get a new 1 i think the fiter of any hand controls has to be a registed with the motability scheme or you wont get insured so i believe? checkout

http://www.motability.co.uk/main.cfm

hope this helps you out a little
