Hi All,

I have read a couple of threads here about Trekinetic's K-2 chair, and I thought it would be suitable for my needs, so today I went off to Hewerdine's in Woodstock to try one out.

All I can say is that I was that impressed that I signed on the dotted line and handed over my deposit, and hopefully I should be able to pick up my new chair in a couple of weeks.

On my way home I was thinking of the threads here about the chair, and that a lot of people had a lot of questions, but there were no answers, hence this post...

Once I have the chair, I will be happy to answer any questions that anyone might have about the chair, and post any specific pictures that may be requested, (sorry, I only have a stills camera and not video).

Just to prevent any misunderstandings I would like to point out that I have no connection whatsoever with Trekinetic or any supplier and I have ordered the chair purely on the requirements of my own needs.

Anyhow, have a think of any questions, and once the chair arrives, I will do my very best to answer them.

On a separate note, I would just like to thank all the participating members of this board for all the wonderful advice and assistance that is offered so freely, you have helped me so very much without ever knowing it. :nono:

My friend bought one last yr. She liked it.

Heres her review from the site...

Heidi from Western Australia

Hello from Down Under!

Since breaking my back 5 years ago, I have looked high and low for a chair capable of the lifestyle I lead. That is, I'm in to extreme sports and the great outdoors. I spend my time between the beach or in the bush, hacking through sand, mud and vegetation. Oh and camping by a fire at night, again mostly in sand, this is Australia!

This machine has made my life hell of a lot easier, and my partner loves it to, it's less hard work for him!
The great thing is that there's no castors at the front to get in the way, it means I don't have to balance on the back wheels over everything. It will pretty much go anywhere! - well within reason!!
Once you get the hang of the drum brakes you can do some awesome skids and spin going down hill on gravel. Beware though, I have had some amazing and funny (for everyone else) wipeouts!!.

Hi EMS,

Yes, that's the one, the only difference between your friends chair and the one that I have ordered is she has the upgraded 'Dyna-Brakes'. These were fitted to the chair that I tried yesterday, but I found that they got in the way on full camber, (I am not as slim and svelt as your friend :mfrlol:).

Hopefully I should have it by the 1st May, as I hope to go with my wife to the Badminton Horse Trials on Sunday 4th which will be a good trial for it.

Hi Smudge

I hope it works really well for you. I must admit I can see quite a few
advantages with this chair. The only thing I wonder about is ..how to get in + out of it!!

All the best

Hi dave420atya,

I had a look at the Terra Trek on the net, but could not find anywhere here in the UK where I could try/buy one, and I didn't want the hassle of having to import one.

Hope your Terra Trek takes you where you want, and you get on great with it.

All the best.

Just a suggestion, but many of the Polaris ATV's don't need hand controls. I've have a 2X4 Trail Boss since 1992, and didn't have to modify a thing. The constant velocity transsmision eliminates shifts and comes with reverse. It already had floorboards with enough of a side guard to keep my feet on, electric start, and the single brake handle activates all three disk brakes.

It's almost as if it were designed for a para.

Good Luck...

Agree with you totally about Polaris, I've got a magnum 2x4. I Tried the suzuki, a yamaha grizzly, loads of them, the polaris is a great bike, I can get my chair on the back with the wheels on on the cargo shelf behind me, the foot boards are very good, I do aso keep bungy bands on the bike to go across my legs to stop them flying off. If you wanted something bigger still to carry things around with , I've got a john deere gator 6x4 which is also very accessible. I've got the accelerator on the handbrake, and if your in the UK, I got that on access to work.

Please please please, post a review/judgment once you get the chair.

I've been thinking hard about the K-2 and really cant make up my mind about it at all.

At first I just scoffed at it and decided it was a fancy looking chair designed by someone trying to reinvent the wheelchair for the sake of it. But the more I look at it and seriously think about it, the more I think I may of been quick to judge.

Are you going to be using this as an everyday chair, or just keeping it as a second chair for getting in the dirt with.

I have a few specific questions/concerns about it:

How does the seat accommodate your existing chair cushion, it just doesn't look as the seat is really made to have a deep chair cushion with it at all.

How the hell do you go up curbs and steps in that thing, do you have to adjust the back wheel each time.

It's made for going in the rough stuff, but it looks as if the foot rest will bottom out and get stuck on rocks and stuff really easily.

The back looks so high, can you have a lower back if you want it.

Hi pawperso,

I will post some pics and my initial views as soon as I collect the chair, (which should hopefully be the 25th or 28th April).

However, having tried out the chair on Monday I can answer a couple of your questions now.

Due to the shape of the seat, it might be possible to accommodate your existing cushion, but I suspect that it will depend on its size, (the K-2 has a seat width of 15.75” so I would have thought that a 16 – 17” cushion will fit without any problems), however, it is available with a custom fit 2” cushion (which I have ordered) which I think equates roughly to my Jay (I am able to pressure relieve often, so I find the Jay fine for me, it also helps having a well padded backside :blushing02: ), it is also available with both low and high profile ROHO cushions.

The back of the seat is not as high as it looks in the pictures, and I found the height about right for me, (my shoulder blades had plenty of room clear of the seat).

I’m hoping that I will be able to use it as my everyday chair, and plan to purchase a second set of wheels with high pressure smooth tyres later in the year.

I did have the opportunity to test the chair over very rough and uneven gravel and I was absolutely amazed, it went from tarmac to rough track to gravel without missing a beat.

As long as it arrives on time, I will be taking it to the Badminton Horse Trials on the 3rd May, which will be a good test for it, as the cross country course is seriously ‘uphill and down dale’.

With regard to the rest of your questions, answers to these will have to wait until I pick up the chair!

All the best

Well as cool as it looks, I did poor mans option :D I took my unused Quickie 2HP and added in a 1-piece footplate to help stabilize and keep my feet on. Added the calf strap cause my legs have a tendance of falling back. Anyways I ordered larger wheels (True 26" - 590, not the 25" 559 that are most commonly used) and got my camo spokeguards for hunting. I put some V-Grips on my chair to hold my gun when I go out. I bought some 8" pneumatic casters and found some used caster forks for them off eBay too so pushing offroad is no problem. I also have PowerTrike that I have for that same chair when conditions get really tough. The bracket is mounted under the chair and the PowerTrike just snaps into place when I need to use it.

I have a pic of my hunting chair around here somewhere in a couple posts. Unfortunatly I dont have a pic since I got the 8x2 pneumatic casters or a pic with my PowerTrike attached... gotta get those pics! Anyways heres the PowerTrike...
