Maybe I should have put this in sports or even travel, not really sure where this best fits actually. Anyways, I am going to Mexico in a few months with a group of people and they all want to go deep sea diving. Not scuba diving but the deep sea where they walk on the bottom of the ocean floor. Now I know how stupid this sounds since I wouldnt be able to walk, much less have a muscle spasm with the 40lb weighted boots that are worn, but thought I would ask... has anyone been deep sea diving or do you know if this is a possibility for a para? If so, how is it done?

I'm a T 12 and I can snorkle. but I can only kick right leg. I just go in circles. Now I use right leg to lead left and use my arms to swim. The first few summers I thought I was going to drown. Another thing that happens to me is my left leg will float up, where ever it wants to. It feel weird to me. It is so beautiful under the ocean the colors, and sea life is so calm, and wonderful to swim with the fish and turtles. I wish you luck on your trip...

i believe pawperso here on the forums has some pictures of him on the bottom of the ocean rolling in his chair, weight the chair down and strap yourself in. Sounds fun to me.

OK now seeing someone wheel themselves on the bottom of the ocean floor would just be downright hilarious!!!!
OK not like I've done it.....so someone go ahead and just kick me out of my chair & on the floor if this sounds dumb.
Since you don't have the ability to control your legs......I'd think that might be too much weight on you. go with a diving belt sure............but I'd think it would just be that much more for your arms to have to drag. If you have a diving mask where the respirator is NOT a separate piece....great, but otherwise I'd be worried about a spasm hitting at a SUPER BAD time......if it was all one piece then you wouldn't have to worry about accidentally spitting it out if a spasm hit. There are dive tanks where they train people and certify them........maybe try it out there; it's a controlled environment where if there were a problem you could be easily rescued. The dive in the tank may make it so you'd have a better idea of how your body will act in deep water, how well swimming and using the respirator even.

I found places near me that offer scuba classes and certification and one closeby has worked with paras before as well so thats a plus. Unfortunatly nowhere near me has anything to do with deep sea diving so I think scuba would be an option but I dont think they do scuba/deep sea diving combo trips. If they do I guess that would work for me. I could scuba by people that are doing deep sea diving? I have a feeling due to depth, area, etc that might not be do-able though. Still checking into it though so open to every and any suggestion. Nothing too crazy, not even wheeling across the botom! I would try that if I had a 2nd chair with me
Dont want to get salt water on my everyday chair and wreck the thing but if I brought a 2nd chair I would be ok with trying that, unfortunatly I will only have the one though.

hi,
i know two quads, one c7 very independent but also a c4 totally dependent, that already did it.. they dress you up, and if you cant swin, they guide you because underwater you weight a lot less.
i havent tried so i cant tell much but i heard its pretty awesome!
