I was wondering who works and what kind of job do you do
Because I cant do my old job anymore and I need to find something new

Well I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find the exact thread I'd seen b4...

Myself I'm a senior computer engineer & Team Lead of a European/Middle East & Africa Technical Support Team which as I work for HP they supported me changing my work pattern to work from home full time.

Obviously any kind of computer 'job' is good if you get the qualifications or training so without knowing your interests/skills/needs etc etc it's hard to say what might be appropriate. All I can say is it works for me & I even work from our 2nd home in Spain full time when we go for up to 6 months a year now :yawn:

Back in the latter half of 1979, I went through training and became a Computer Programmer/Analyst. I worked for the next 17 years as a P/A and Instructor in programming. Mostly mainframe and database applications.

My hubby couldn't go back to doing what he did after he broke his neck in a diving accident. He was a Teamster and worked for a builder supply warehouse. Then he got some computer programming training, but he really didn't like it so he quit working until we moved to AZ. He works for a hardware warehouse (one of the big ones) and was hired on as a greeter. He trained in kitchen design, but if he performs that job, he will go over his monthly allowable amount according to SSDI rules. It would be great to get off SSDI, but my husband doesn't really have the stamina to work enough hours to make up for what he would lose by giving it up. There is another guy who works at the front of the store who has Muscular Dystrophy. He uses a cane and greets customers and gets them to sign up for store credit. Most of the people who work where my husband does are supplementing their Soc. Sec. somehow. I believe for people who retired, there is no limit to how much you can make, but watch out if you collect SSI or SSDI.

When I had my accident, I was 2 classes and a thesis away from my Master's in Developmental Psychology. I went back several years later. They had changed the catalogue, so a couple more classes were added on. The 10 year limit came up, meaning my old coursework was no longer valid. I wanted to start a new degree, but Voc Rehab would not pay for it. So, on scholarships and student loans I earned my Masters in Commmunity and Agency Counseling. My favorite job was doing group and individual counseling for the County Correctional Center's rehabilitation program. Right now though, I am on almost total bed rest with a pressure sore, so I can't work, and I HATE IT!!! I can't wait to get back to work. I have lots of time to hang out on the internet, and I have a lot of friends in the real world, which is my saving grace. I also have grown children and grandchildren, and I have fun with them.

After taking a couple of years off post injury to adjust, I went back to school, got an Associates Degree in Computer Science. I've been working as a programmer/analyst for the last almost 24 years.
