Got the wheelchair today, it feels as heavy as a hippo, really had issues whem ny OT was hear.

Anyway after she left I used it around the home as I promised her I would.

It was so hard to push myself, it felt so heavy.

As I was trying to push myself using all my strength just to move a few metres from one end of the room to another and my hand slipped off the push rim, I fell forward, hand went through the spokes and got caught.

Result was a crack and snap sound, wrist swelled up, phoned OT and was escored to A&E by my OT and Social Worker (without the chair LOL).

Am home now with a nice cast on my arm...

Now I am stuck, wheelchair the weight of a hippo, can't use a stick / crutch in that arm. A boring few weeks I feel!!

Bad luck, hope it heals soon, looks like a scaphoid cast to be, is that what you have broken? I have broken mine before.

Hope you feel better soon

Wrist and Scaphoid, Have done my Scaphoid many times and have very weak wrists anyway but never thought I would brake it in a chair!

Hi and welcome Alex,
Beter you than me! :blushing02:

I fell out of my chair recently too. . . although the outcome was much tamer than yours!

I live alone and my early morning routine includes going outside with my undershorts (boxers) on to get the newspaper. Well, it was on a curb with a steep incline this fine cool morning, and as I leaned over to pick it up, my chair turned on me and rolled down to the gutter where I neatly dumped out of the seat!

With my level I can't get back on my own, so all I knew was that I was royaly f%*@ked. It was to early for anyone to be up yet and I was sitting in the gutter in front of my house.

Then, out of no where came this tall, blonde jogger asking if I needed help! Talk about luck!!
Of course she got me back in the chair and off she went.

Don't know why I posted this here. . . . just saying hello, and that sometimes even the worst of falls don't end up as bad as they first seemed.

LOL I would say your fall was worse! I was in my house so no one saw me.

Thanks for the reply, its nice to know it happens to others too. :blushing02:

Yah, but all I ended up with were a couple knee scrapes and a pair of dirty feet (kinda nice to actually see dirt on the toes again, since I've been in a chair 2+ years :) ).

Take it easy, Alex

What king of chair do you have? Not that it makes much difference with a broken arm. Well at least you can roll around in circles LoL. Keep your chin up and just watch how other people will make you feel better.

My last experience was just before Christmas. I had gotten out of the shower and was letting my legs and feet dry. OK now naked in my living room drinking a beer when I hit a toy my son left and fell forward out of my chair.
For some reason I couldn’t get back in my chair myself so had to call the police to help.

The situation was very embarrassing to say the least. Not the beer or drinking part as much as living in a town so small it made head lines in the local news. Six week later I felt a bump on the side of my leg. I went to the doctor to find out I had broken my leg. Now I know why the spasm were so bad I couldn’t get in my chair by myself.

Thing will get better then worse then better again. It’s called life, enjoy the ride. Hell rolling along beats walking.

Hi Alex

What rotten luck....

Sounds like your chair is too heavy, have you discussed it with your OT?

Hope it's not too painful + heals up quickly

Hugs

Karen

Hello, Alex

I hope u feel better soon, and I would think that this isn't the right chair for u to begin with!
You said y ourself it's just too heavy, and this is what caused u to break your wrist. What has your OT said about this? My suggestion is depending on his/her answer would determine if he/she would still BE my OT!!!
Good luck to you and please feel better quickly!!
Take care and God bless... Em
