Hi Ya,
Recently I had to go in to hospital with D.V.T. Are there any more spinal injuries who have had this, the hospital was Blackpool where they have no idea of spinal cord at all.
I have to drain my bladder twice a day, they had no idea where to start. I had to get my wife in to do it . They would not do manual or enema said it was a doctors job to do this but no doctor came to do it . This is disgusting for a hospital.
Has any one else had this problem?

Hi, and welcome to the board,
You will probably find this is very common in everyday hospitals, as they just do not know how to handle patients with a spinal cord injury.

Hi kennyren,
D.V.T.(deep vein thrombosis) is that what you mean?I'm working in the surgical ward and has a lot of patients involved in Motor Vihecular Accident. And resulting to SCI.As if our ward is SCI unit now, after the operation that's the first thing we need to avoid DVT.That's why we used a lot of devices to avoid this.Do they apply for a foot compresson device and with a Ted stockings? The machine will pump for 24 hours to keep your vein in function. I'm not questioning their services. But in the hospital we need to prevent as much as possible those complications that will arise.
And about the bladder and bowel management that is also important. It will cause another complications for your body.I hope you can find another hospital that will serve and treat you better.
Sorry if I'm a little crude here. But I'm just thinking the hospital/doctor that they need to look after their patient to cure and render the best care. And not just to earn money from their patient. If they cant treat you right, why they dont reffer you to the other hospital for further treatment.....
Aww...before I forget.....Welcome to the board.

Well that's just plain scary.
Like the others, I also would urge you to find another hospital, if your health insurance policy allows...and if it doesn't allow, then appeal that decision and keep appealing it.
I would also go through the proper channels in filing a complaint/concern about the hospital that failed your medical needs. Suggest that they train their medical personnel in SCI cases.
I do hope you're able to find an acceptable hospital for your care. I agree with you, kennyren, that's disgusting and inexcusable.
